Hello everyone,
I desided to write some comments about the affiliate link issues that I have experienced when using IE7.0
IE7.0 seems to ignore affiliate links and that issue seems to happen regularly. Earlier version IE6 had not that problem.
I use Firefox and Seamonkey and other mozilla based browsers mainly,so I did not noticed that high severity issue before when using IE7.0 because I use it very rarely,I simply don't like it.
Anyway I suppose US internet users use mainly IE7.0 so if we don't take a note of this,we will loose a lot of possible affiliate profits and referrals to program owners.
I have now tested IE7.0 with my affiliate links and really it "kills" the ref codes so all sales and recruiting from IE7.0 users are going like smoke to the sky.
This does not seem to be any spyware software's cookie killing issue, but solely the problem in IE7.0 itself.
After some test I found that if using HTML refreshing redirection in my own domain as well as using PHP redirection will fix the problem. If doing so,affiliate links seems to work OK.
The same system seems to work with clickbank hop-links too
Otherwise not,if used directly the hop-links,in final phase it shows (affiliate=none) in clickbank payment form.
I hope this resolve this issue,
Please let me know your tests and opinions..
All the best
Aatos
Ps. Here are both of these code solutions that you can use,
HTML:
<html>
<head>
<title>Your Programs name</title>
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" CONTENT="0;URL=http://www.youraffiliatesite.com">
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>
PHP:
<?php header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" ); header("Location:http://www.youraffiliatesite.com"); ?>
First make some folder in your website,second if you use upper code,save it as index.html and upload to that folder in your website.
Another code in the bottom, do the same,make folder save code as index.php and upload to your website folder.
I hope codes show correctly in this mail.

So are you saying that using the alternate code takes care of the problem with the cookie being erased?

The concern isn't so much for YOU, its about your visitors. With Internet Explorer 7, there is an error that causes the tracking cookie not to be planted, meaning you don't get the commission.
That being said, I'm an Internet Explorer 7 user, and I've tested this and have never seen this error occur, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

okay - I am still thinking about this.... so what or how can one avoid the chances of this happening with like blogs and Squidoo lenses...
Or do I need to build my own website in order to be completely safe??
As you can see, this is a bit deep for me small brains!

Now that I think of it, I don't know if I'm using Internet Explorer 7.
If you are using IE7, try doing a "test" purchase for a Clickbank product using your own link. When you get past the order page, look down to the bottom of the page, and you should see your affiliate ID.
If its not there, that means the cookie did not get planted correctly. If this case, try the code above and re-do a test purchase using your affiliate ID.
Anyone using Internet Explorer 7can do this test. I'd do it if I knew for sure I had Internet Explorer 7, and if the code above didn't confuse the heck out of me! lol
Maybe someone who is using Internet Explorer 7 can do this test - someone who is a little more computer literate than me!

Yes I am saying there are problems with IE7
With Firefox, Seamonkey,Mozilla nothing like this never occurs I have never noticed and I use them daily basis. I have worked with computers since year1989, I know Windows like my own pockets, I have worked with every Windows versions existed. I worked in Telephone company 35 years in technical occupations with cellular telephones and networks and during that time about 20 years with Operational systems like Windows and Linux fixing problems from our company's computers.
I am not talking BS, there IS problem with IE7 when talking about affiliate links. With IE6 that problem DOES NOT existed.
As how to do the test with IE7, you must start the test from clean computer cache emptied totally as well as cookies. If you don't do it that way your test is useless,it does not show for you any real and reliable results.
You can use some good softwares eg. CCleaner to clean your computer before the test. http://www.ccleaner.com/
After your computer is clean reboot it,then start it again,select some of your clickbank hoplink,open your IE7 browser,put the hoplink URL in browser's line,click it and go to the final phase in clickbank site payment form, take a look at the bottom if you see there: [affiliate = none] You have that same problem with your IE7.
As how this affects you,it does not affect you but those people in who's affiliate links you are clicking in websites using IE7, THEY don't get commissions from their clickbank and other affiliated sales.
As how this affects you with YOUR clickbank commissions and affiliated referrals and sales, when someone using IE7 have this same problem in THEIR computer, YOU DON*T get referral or cb commissions when THEY visit in YOUR affiliated site.
Note, if you do the test do everything that I have told above before the test,if you don't,your test is useless.
And do the same test same way with Firefox or some other Mozilla based browser, you will never catch any missed affiliate ref codes.
I have done a lot of test with this and I assure this problem is REAL and if you'll be lulled into safety feeling with this,you'll make a big mistake. This problem EXISTs..
Enough said ..
All the best and be careful with IE7
Aatos
Ps. Here some other links where you will get some same type info
http://sageblogger.com/ie-7-and-affiliate-links/ http://www.earnersblog.com/ie7-nuking-clickbank-affiliate-links/ http://www.whydowork.com/forums/urgent-please-read-spybot-problem-with-clickbank-t117 82.html
PPs. By the way I am quite sure most of the so called "guru" webmasters know about this problem but you can guess why this is not officially informed anywhere ..lol..

Hello everyone,
I just continued the test, I returned to IE6 tested cb hoplinks and affiliate links,
and guess what, there were not ANY problems with them all worked just OK like with Firefox and other Mozilla based browsers.
This is the last nail to IE7's coffin,it is NOT suitable for affiliate use for ordinary users,just avoid it.
Well and you know how much ordinary users are out there using it and browsing your affiliate links.
And the result is you are getting cheated automaticly by IE7 without any purposedly affiliate theft.
So there is the problem and BIG one..
Anyway all the best luck for everyone

And Yes, by my tests this has worked for me and fixed the problem,but of course it is very laborious to modify every your CB hop-links that way.
I also tried many java based cloaking systems, but they did not help just only refreshing type server based HTML and PHP redirection helped.
I have dedicated a lot of time for these tests and my opinion is that anyhing else will not help.
It is not any spyware software based problem which I have readen about in some forums but solely IE7 based problem.
I am very familiar with spyware softwares and I know what they do,which one is good which one BS. One good and FREE that works is Spyware Terminator. http://www.spywareterminator.com/
Avoid Spypot I tried some earlier version some years ago and it resulted my computer crashed.
Spypot removed some necessary Windows internal files and that caused the crashing, since then I have not trusted it at all.
Anyway like I said this problem is solely in IE7 not caused by anything else.
All the best

Hello everyone,
I am now continuing the tests with newer Google optimized Finnish language IE7 version, typed 7.0.5730.11IC
I suppose also equal English version exists..
First attempts seemed promising, I'll keep you informed..
Bottom line, anyway we cannot know which exact versions people are using and if this version works OK, problem still remains existent.
All the best,
Aatos

Hi Keith,
To see what type of browser you have and the version, click your browser help menu. On the drop down you'll either see "About Mozilla Firefox" or "About Internet Explorer". That gives you the type. Select it to see the version number.

I never use IE it's awful. I only go in for a quick moment to see if my sites are all okay and everything is showing as it should.
One day I went in and half the blog was gone it took a couple of days to figure it out so now I check it when I make changes to my sites. Sonni

Ok, looks like I'm using Internet Explorer 7 after all, and I don't have the problem where the cookie isn't planted. Perhaps this error happens with some computers using IE 7, but not all - not sure why there are inconsistensies though.

Aatos,
Welcome to the forum. While I appreciate your concern, that rumor about Spybot and IE7 was started two years ago. I'm confident that most of the affiliate networks have since dealt with the cookie issue.
We don't need any more updates on the matter and I will thank you to abstain from spreading fearful rumors in the future.
Instead, please act responsibly and report your concerns to the parties that you feel are involved in any similar issue in the future. In this case it would be CB, MS, CJ, etc...
I would also ask that you not post several replies in a row.
Again, I don't feel that the cookie problems exist at this point in time so please don't bring it up again.
Thanx,

I don't know about the IE7 issue because I've never been able to replicate it, but I have no doubt in my mind that Aotus has. If I could replicate the IE7 issue, I would also implement his solution, but I'm not too worried about it because I can't replicate the issue, so the error must be specific to certain versions of IE7 or certain computers, or something related.
As far as the Spybot S&D issue is concerned, I was able to replicate that one about a year or two ago. It only happens when you "immunize" your computer after you run the Spybot S&D scan, which most people probably don't do.
I did talk to Clickbank about it and even suggested that they change the name of their cookie so that Spybot S&D didn't recognise it, but they said that they thought this issue effected an insignificant amount of transactions, and that they were possibly moving to a "cookieless" system, which hasn't happened yet.
What I'm glad about is the fact that the IE7 issue seems to only effect some computers. It has NOT effected two out of the three of use who have tested it in this thread, so hopefully, like the Spybot S&D issue, it only effects only a tiny amount of transactions.

OK, Thank you, no problems
Wel, I have personally been joined some forums to find good marketing and traffic tips. I can give some advices in technical problems if anyone needs, so we all win..if we can say so..
I am very deeply technical oriented person and not so good marketer..
And therefore my comments and opinions could go over the head sometimes for less technical persons, I am sorry for that.. but I am used to tell about the things that way due to my long carrier (35 years) worked in Telephone company in technical occupations.
Also my style to say things might be irritating to some persons,but don't worry..it is my nationality, we Finnish people are used to say the things right away to the point..lol
I'll try to be less technical, but if you need some help don't hesitate to ask..
All the best
