Hi,
Anyone know of any home businesses that don't rely on recruiting referrals?
I look forward to hearing from you.

eBay has been mentioned in several threads - requires little set up though is expensive.
If you can source something good to sell, it might be worth setting up a oscommerce shop (free software) and selling it through that to avoid the high fees.

Hi,
I've heard that ebay is a good place to sell information products. I've already got an ebook that I could sell, although I think that they charge to list products.

Hi Andrea,
The charge to sell products is not high. It also depends on what it is and how many pictures of it you want to post, etc.
The first photo is free, so if you decide to list something on eBay, make sure your first photo is a good one, then you won't need any more.
I think I paid around .50 per listing and .25 cents for extra photos when I was selling. Actually, I am going to open my store again soon, as I found that my profits more than made up for the listing fees.
What I liked about eBay was that they took care of all the 'books' for you. They make it very easy to list items and keep track of all of it for you.

It's pretty same as selling physical products. You pay to list your ebook and then some additional fees if it's sold.

eBay is my primary source of income. In fact I've written a complete manual for how to establish a home business on eBay step by step. You should check it out.
There's a lot of competition for information products on eBay, so it's not as profitable as it once was. The scams also outnumber the good ones by about 5 to 1, so I think most people are pretty wary of paying more than $5 or so on an ebook. That really cuts down on the profits for selling information there.
There are so many places that you can find products to get started selling, but they are not easy to find. I think the reason most people are so intimidated about getting started is because they don't know what to sell or where to get it. As I said, check out my manual because it can probably answer a lot of questions for you. Link is in my signature.

Hi,
Thank you for replying Tafkaga. Can you tell me what the most profitable products to sell on ebay would be?
What are the chances of someone who is new to selling on ebay selling something in their first week of trying.
I am talking about selling other people's products from dropshipping countries.

Hi Andrea,
Andrea here <grin>.
You have any interest in retailing candles?
I have an candle business eCourse that you can take if you want ... each lesson covers a different method of marketing.
The idea is to try the idea on 'before you buy' so to speak. And get a feel for the support available.
We have a great and supportive team and team building is totally optional.
You could build a solid home based income on retail, fundraisers and wholesale customers alone.
Sound interesting?

Hey Andrea,
As you can see from the above posts, there are limitless possibilities. But to answer your earlier question about how to get your ebook listed on eBay, register first, it's free, and then click on the link/s for either site map or 'opening your own store' or 'selling' on eBay.
And it may have been a fluke, but I sold my item within an hour of listing it on eBay. The monthly store fee is, I think, around $9, so if you only have a couple of items to sell to start, you'll probably expect to pay $12-15 for your first month. The store fees don't change, and your total listing fees will go up if you have more items that you add, but when you list your eBook, state the number of items as whatever you want.
You may not make a lot of money at first, but as you get comportable with eBay you may decide to add more items. You may not make hundreds of dollars a month to start, but it's a start.
There are books like 'eBay for Dummies' and 'How to Sell on eBay' available at your local library, in addtion to free articles around the internet that you can access for information. But the eBay directory is the best source for information -

Sports Arbitrage Trading is another work from home business which people have been succesfully doing for quite a number of years now which doesn't involve recruiting referals.
What it involves is a sum of money which you ahve ready to trade on 'sure bets' in online bookmakers. As dodgy as that may sound straight up..bookmakers..gambling and all that, it's actually probably not what you are thinking.
Because there are literally HUNDREDS of online bookmakers now, they regularly have differences of opinion on ths outcome of a game. A skilled trader can manually find these discrepencies and back "the blue Team" at Bookmaker 1 for odds of 1.80, and back "The red team" at bookmaker 2 for odds of 2.80 (to make up an example). In this case, place $55.50 on blue team, and $35.7 on the red team, and no matter who wins your winnings will be $100, which will give you $9 more than you have bet. If you bet $555 and $357, you make around $90..... etc. These arbitrages set up definite returns on your investment which you know before you even place the trade. If the profit isn't high enough, you don't trade it.
This isn't a scam or anything, it is actually a full time business. It does involve work and does take a skill set to be developed (although it isn't really anything too technical).
I have a website which I am trying to make into a good step by step guide through the process [Link removed - Admin] while an example of someone else's website who has been professionally trading arbs from home since he retired can be found at http://sportsarbitragereview.co.uk/
This is a homebased business which is really worth looking into.

You can give internet marketing a shot. You can make money by writing free online articles and creating bloggs. You can also give a stab at Google Adwords...but only give Google Adwords a shot if you are really brave and have some money set aside to spend on advertising...

selling ebooks and info on ebay is a big waste of money and time - don't bother unless they contain hidden referral links

Member was the wrong word. Independant Distributor. That's what I am. I market the products. I don't know what is considered referral based. I can earn residuals if I want to, if I don't want to refer anyone, I don't have to. I am able to retail the products, set up fundraisers, open a store if I feel like it, whatever I wish. I never have to buy anything. I don't know if it belongs here or not. I do know I saw someone asking about free, and these are FREE. Basically, with all of them, I signed up to get wholesale prices for the products, and I sell them. BUT, first I get orders for them, I do not buy them up front. I can, but I don't. If someone else wants to sign up too, then, they can. I would be paid residuals if they do. If they don't fine. Doesn't matter. I don't just recruit. It's just an option. I can sell you product if you want it. That's what I do, I am in Marketing. And, I didn't pay for it to get there. See? So, if it doesn't belong here, sorry, I was just sharing. Thankyou.

Oh, I forgot, since I see the title of this thread, it says, anyone know of a business that does not rely on referrals. So, I have an answer, NO the ones I am a distributor for do NOT rely on referrals. Like I said, if you want to refer, you can, if you don't, don't. Check them out before deciding if it is just referral based. I have made money, and I have not signed up ANYONE for the candles. The other two that are listed on my site, I have two referrals, But they have not made any purchases at all. If they do, I will get paid, if not, I wont. But, that is not the ONLY way for me to make money, as a matter of fact, it is only a very small part of it. Has this made it any clearer, or explained my case very well? Your opinion? Thanks!

I've been a member of ebay for over 5 years and have
listed items off and on for a long time. I have bought
ebooks on ebay and spent a lot, their is nothing i found
that helped me make a lot of money on ebay. In order
to be sucessful in ebay you need a big advertising budget
because if you don't advertise your items go to the back of
the bus. And nobody goes that far to look at your items.
The only one making money on ebay is ebay themself. Sure
you hear about people making millions on ebay, however
these people are called powerseller and they have a big budget.
Don't get me wrong, I have not given up on ebay, but I'm
being truthful it takes a few bucks to keep lisiting your items.

I totally agree about Ebay. I tried to make money doing that, but, if you are selling something that alot of other people are selling, forget it. Especially if you in business as a rep or distributor. Ebay has actually gotten TOO big if you ask me. The competition is fierce, and too many people have more money than you, and in my opinion, more money than brains too, so they sell stuff for a dollar that would cost ANYONE way more than that to buy. Ebay is a great place to find a bargain, but that's just it, everyone on ebay wants a bargain, and the seller, in the end, has to sell at that bargain price if they are going to make a living. I don't reccommend it to anyone anymore. Just go looking for things for a dime, but, don't try selling unless you have a unique item that you know is worth more than the outrageous selling fees. I can tell you from experience, I currently have two suspended accounts on ebay because the fees went way beyond my pocket, stuff didn't sell, I made nothing on what did and then the listing price cost me more than what the items got. If you can afford to waste money on listing, that is great, but if not, my suggestion is find a nice free web host, maybe pay a few dollars per month to set up a cart, and sell from there. There are unbelievable amounts of people willing to exchange links with you, to get you noticed. I for one, am one of those people. So, check out my site too, and if you want to exchange links, let me know. Also, every single business I have signed up with that is listed on my website, they were all FREE to join. I have spent very little so far, and yet, with time and a little work, I have made more than I spent. Now that is how a business works! Pamela

I don't mean to sound critical, but I visit this forum for advice and support - if I ask a question, I expect someone, one day, will answer my question -
I find it a little disturbing that people suggest buying this or that from themselves, in order to make a buck, when in a forum such as this, advice should be freely offered and given.
What's wrong with offering a little free help? Would you want to pay someone every time you have a question? Just my 2 cents' worth - for what it's worth.

My wife and I run seveal "Piggy Bank Websites" which generate passive income for us. This works. We've been working from home for most of the past 10 years and even homeschool our 3 young children.
The idea is based on business 101: "find a need and fill it". Finding the need is the most important part. Filling the need can be done by creating a product (e.g. an Infoproduct such as an eBook) or selecting a quality product someone else has created and selling it.
I think the best businesses are the ones that are based on REAL concepts that have withstood the test of time.
