I'm very new to affiliate marketing and would like to pose a question to those of you who've been doing this for sometime. I'd like to approach a company that I use myself quite often for automotive parts. They don't have an affiliate link on their site, but I'd like to see if they'd be interested in allowing me to push sales to their site for a small commission. I've pointed many a customer to this company in the past, via forums, when I've been asked for help or suggestions. I'm thinking this would be a great opportunity now that I've become involved in affiliate marketing, and learned and learned the basics of how it works. How would you guys approach this, or am I way out of my league here?

Just contact them and see if they will allow it first. Then you can come to agreements on all the finer aspects. Just take it one step at a time.

Go for it - I did that with a local furniture company, and it was really quite simple. They gave me a wholesale price list.
Some companies give a discount, like a certain percent and then once I have payment on hand, I simply go in and order their stuff , have it dropshipped to the customer and pay the wholesale amount to the store.
I keep the profit.
You can use all kinds of free places online to promote the merchandise, like articles, forums, squidoo, and even set up a simple website for free, that looks professional.
Fun stuff - good luck.

Contact them. They may pay per lead or a percentage of sales

Go for it. Work hard if you are with the company.
