Do you know what it is that you are looking for in a business? Are you looking for something where you can do mostly retail and market the products or services or do you want to be a business builder and help others do the same??

That helped narrow it down for me when I was researching as I knew I wanted something that paid well enough on the product/ sales and commissions that I didn't need to recruit like a maniac in order to make money - lol

There are a gazillion things you can do online or as a home based business, and it can get very overwhelming, in a hurry, if you have no idea what it is you are looking for.

I would like to market a particular kind of product or service that would be used by a fairly large consumer base then it will make it a bit easier to market & then I wouldn't have to rely so much on signing people up, I'm a bit cautious about joining a MLM but I would be interested in some kind co-operative marketing or a business I can perhaps put on autopilot to make it totally web based.

It depends on what you are interested in. You can do affiliate marketing, but spend some time researching the product and company before taking a decision.

I'm interested in things like PC related items like software, Consumer Electronics & shopping so I guess their might be something in all that for me.

There are probably tens of thousands of products and services in hundreds of niches that fit that broad description.

This narrows it down quite a bit, but you've still got to be much more specific.

What kind of PC related software?

Would that be... Antivirus, Security, Utilities, Desktop Publishing, Developer Tools, Graphics, Multimedia, Contact Management, Games, Diagnostics, all the aforementioned?

Consumer Electronics & shopping - Would that include products like Plasma TVs, Ipods, Mp3 Players, Headphones, Radar Detectors, Digital Clocks, Music Systems, Answering Machines and similar items offered in an online shopping mall?

The clearer you become about what exactly you want to market (or NOT market) the easier it will be to figure out your strategy. You need to whittle your options down to a well-defined niche, thereby creating a fixed target to shoot at.

Yes that's what I'd be wanting to do but I'd even like to market specialist software for example marketing software & I know there are quite a few programs like this, However they all seem to be quite expensive, As for electronics you have hit the nail right on the head as those products would be quite easy to promote for consumers out there.
