Greetings everyone. My name is Mike and I have a full time job that I drive to everyday. However I am not happy with the income I am making right now and would like to supplement it with by possibly making money online.
I am new to all this so I don't really even know where to begin. There seems to be so much out there. I like to do my home work and I definately research anything so I don't get scammed.
I just recently brought a brand new computer which I am hoping turns into a good investment. I like the idea of making money at home.
I am not interested in getting rich quick, and I am willing to put in any effort that yields results. Even if I make as little as a couple hundred dollars extra a month that is okay with me.
So what I am looking for on this thread is just any advice for a newcomer looking to make money online. I am interested in anything as long as it is legit and worth it. I don't know anything about business so having my own home internet business probably isn't an option right now, maybe someday. I am worried that maybe I don't have any skills to make money online.
I have looked into paid surveys but I am uncertain as to whether try it. It seems to work for some people but not for others. The only other thing I have looked into is rebate-processing but that definately seems like a scam.
So any advice anyone can share would be greatly appreciated! I am still going to keep researching on my own but I would love advice on things to try and I would love to hear what has worked for other people.
Thanks,
Mike aka Cavalier

Welcome to the forum Mike! I do not make as much as some people here, but I can share my experiences with you.
When I decided to make money online, I started out by doing sponsored blogging. Basically, I created a couple of blogs, 1 personal one, and 1 for product reviews. I built them up by posting good, interesting content, and after they were 60-90 days old, I started looking at sponsored blogging sites, like PayU2Blog.com and PayPerPost.com. There used to be others, but these two places are where I get the most work. It's not a large enough income to live on, but I also do other things to supplement my earnings.
I am also a freelance writer. I write content that other people need, but do not have the time, grammar skills, or desire to write for themselves. These are mainly articles and blog posts. I started out doing this on Scriptlance.com and GetAFreelancer.com, and have also gotten some projects from Craigslist.
A few months ago, I decided to get into affiliate marketing. I still write and blog, but right now, I am concentrating mostly on being an affiliate for other products. I use Clickbank to get my affiliate links, then write articles, create blogs, and post ads with my links in them. I purchased a product called Profit Lance which has helped me immensely. You can get information on affiliate marketing for free, but I decided to go straight to the source. I actually got the recommendation to join Profit Lance from here on this forum.
After reading through the course (there is A LOT of information), I started really using the knowledge I had gained about 3 weeks ago. I made my first sale today...$26, but I was estatic! I am slowly learning what works, so I focus on it more, and move away from methods that do not work. At the moment, I am using all free traffic generation methods, but eventually plan on using Google Adwords to get traffic to my blogs and sites.
I hope I didn't throw too much information at you at once, but with I just wanted to share with you how I make my income online!

Welcome Mike, You will find there is a lot of stuff a person can do online - one thing works for one person and another doesn't so it will take some research.
I have tried a variety of things and what I have found is that regardless what you do... whether it is a home business, affiliate marketing, blogging, or whatever you want to put there... it really is all about marketing and learning the ropes of 'getting yourself out there' on the internet so people can find you and whatever it is you represent.
Happy researching and feel free to contact me anytime. If I can't help you, there are usually others on here that can.

First let me say Congrats Kecia on your first sale! I remember well how exciting that is. Okay, to be honest, it's still pretty darn exciting.
Hi Mike,
Welcome to the forum! It's a good thing that you're not interested in getting rich quick, 'cause you won't. No harm in dreaming, though.
Seriously, though, you can make money online in your spare time. As mentioned, there are a lot of different methods. Completely ignore the rebate-processing/data entry stuff (your instincts are right on!).
The paid surveys are okay, but nothing to get excited about. That's something you would always be doing the same amount of work for the same small reward.
Even though you feel like having your own home internet business isn't an option, it really is. The idea is that you start small learning the ropes and the how-to. As you put in time and effort building your foundation, all of your effort accumulates.
Unlike doing paid surveys or writing articles for someone else, you are building your own business. That means that as time progresses you can do less work and get greater rewards.
I started searching and learning almost two years ago. I knew nothing about online marketing and didn't think I had any skills to make money online either. But almost everyone does, they just don't realize it.
We all know something about something. That sounds a bit funny, but it's true. If you look at my first site, I took what I know and love about chocolate candy and built a business around that. My most recent endeavor is building a business around my interest in and knowledge of natural remedies and digestive health.
What do you know something about? What do you enjoy in your free time? You obviously work full time outside the home. In what field? Is it something you enjoy? Take that knowledge online and make it work for you.
You might say, "Sure, Angie, but how in the world do you do that?" It's not easy, but it is rather simple.
Millions of people go to the internet every day to search for information about something - a problem they have, a need they have, a hobby they want to learn more about, a product they are interested in purchasing, etc.
As internet marketers, it's our job to provide them the information they are looking for as it relates to our topic of choice. Then we get to monetize for our efforts.
Example: Halloween is just around the corner. I know a lot of people are going to be looking for clever ideas for Halloween recipes and gift ideas. So, I've spent the last couple of days adding pages of information to my chocolate site based on the keywords/phrases that people will be typing into the search engines over the next couple of weeks. (I know those phrases because I've done the research - a whole other subject).
So how will I make money from that? To be honest, I won't make much from the recipes I've provided, but I'll get a few dollars from the various clicks on the Google ads that I'll receive. But, I will also recommend certain Halloween related gifts that people can purchase and I'll earn a commission on the sales made through my 'affiliate' links.
Hopefully, some visitors will enjoy my site and sign up for my newsletter, come back and visit again later and so forth.
That's just one tiny little thing that adds more foundation and growth to my online business. Am I making it clear enough for you to get a picture of what YOU could do?
As I said, I had zero skills online. I had to learn everything from the very basic abc's of online marketing. What I found to be the best method for doing that was SiteBuildIt. I've been using SBI for almost two years to learn, grow, and build my online business. I'm still starry-eyed about SBI and what they've made it possible for me to do.
No, I'm not getting rich (yet! ), but I'm steadily making several hundred dollars a month and the foundation has only been laid. As time progresses and I continue to add layers to my foundation, my income will increase and my workload will decrease. Cool, huh?
Well, when I started this note to you I had no idea I was going to rattle on so long, but I do get excited and somewhat carried away talking about it all. There's some free e-books and resources available below if you are interested in this type of thing. Help yourself.
Blessings, Angie

Hey Mike, welcome aboard.
If you plan on doing surveys and you live in the US, I'm sure that surveys will be a good extra for you. Just avoid joining the survey programs that have an upfront fee.
Well I can relate with you because I started seriously working at home 3 months ago and thankfully I didn't go through the scam path and the first opportunity that I joined was something that has given me results. I'll share with you how I was able to choose the right program or opportunity successfully.
First of all, when I see a page that promises me some form of opportunity, the first thing I would do is look for contact information. Most of the time they have an e-mail available. Some of the previous programs I saw, I e-mailed them and see how they handle simple questions. The ones that don't reply are usually the ones I tend to veer away from.
I'm from the Philippines so alot of the money making opportunities do not apply, until I found a program that actually had a Yahoo! Messenger ID on it. I messaged that person and she was kind enough to explain things to me and tell me what to do from there.
So in this scenario, really the first step is to see if you can connect with the person who is sponsoring you to join that partcular opportunity. I always judge the person before the program. Of course after I chat with the person, I'd google around and do some research about the program. Now googling isn't so difficult and when the going gets tough, you can always ask in a forum such as this one.
So I got involved with it and continued to keep in touch with my new friend (better to consider her a friend than a partner) and then after a couple of months, I found some success and gaining momentum and building a team.
I think you Mike have some great potential to join in any opportunity. Just keep your goal set and having the mind of not expecting too much to get rich quick is a good mentality. All that's best for you to do is to choose something that has great support and trusting members and combine that with patience and steady dedication and you should be earning some good extras to the job you already have.
Best of luck to you, hope what I posted made some sense and again welcome to the board.
Regards, John

Hi mike and welcome to the forum.
Im fairly new here so i dont know as much as some people but i know that like angie said you wont get rich quick but it's great you have the drive to actually work to make money as that is what you have to do most of the time!
While you do your research just beware of the scams out there if you find something your interested in, do your research try and find reviews on it. It's a good idea to talk to the person who owns the company because if they are willing to talk to you either by phone or email there is a good chance they are not a scam. I've realised i've given similar advice to John but i suppose the more people who stress how important it is the more likely you are to follow the advice!
I would be very surprised if the first method you take actually makes you the income you are looking for (but if you do well done) so if you find that the first thing or the second don't make you an income don't give up as you will find the right work at home job for you somewhere, it's just that not all methods suit everyone when making money online. Thats what i found anyway!
Hope you find a career online that suits you, like many of us in this forum!
Pip

Hello Mike,
I would join Wealthy Affiliate University where everything you need to make money online is included.
This is a legitimate, solid program, and very affordable.
I am a life member and love it there.
You may also want to check out the Thirty Day Challenge. It teaches one way, where Wealthy Affiliate teaches many ways to make money online.
I used my WA foundation, and took TDC on the side, and always continue my IM education.
Remember, if something online seems too good to be true, it probably is. Avoid the get rich scams...run!
Have a great day!
Victoria

Hi Mike
As other members have said there are lots of ways to make money but i remember what it was like when i first started out you read so much info that your head feels like it is in a spin what you have to do is decide which way you are going to go and stick to it, it is so easy to have your mind swayed from one system to another and you will suffer information overload.
In my opinion ( and this is only my opinion ) i found affiliate marketing the best way to start you do not have all the hassles of producing your own product, dealing with questions, any refunds etc, you can then just focus your attention on the main aspect of selling and that is getting visitors to see your offer if you can master this you can move on to something else.
So give it a go the start up costs are very small but the rewards can be awesome.
Good luck.

Welcome on board Mike!
Well, from the long term prospect.. making and earning from blog or website is best thing you can do with your brand new computer. Which one you wanna make - Blog or a website, both have their advantage and disadvantage. I am not great writer and can not update blog daily/alternate basis, so I am not great fan of blog. I love making and earning from website.

Hello Mike
Are you confused? I know I was when I was looking to make money online. There are genuine opportunities out there although you have to be so careful and a recommendation by a personal friend is always a good thing.
I was lucky as one of my friends had worked with a company for a few months and she was making good money so I contacted them and havn't looked back.
I now have 2 websites and both are very profitable.
Take Care and Good Luck - always visit, if possible, or talk directly to the company you choose to work with and make sure they include full training on internet marketing with one to one tuition.
Jenny

Thanks everyone who has responded so far. This is all great stuff. I wasn't expecting this much response. If it is okay I might send you guys some PMs to get more advice.
Freelance writing is something I wouldn't mind learning more about.
Thanks again everyone. I will definately be trying some things in the future and will keep posting on this forum.
Mike
