Hello, I'm new to this forum.
I'm just looking for so advice.
I'm 36 and have a lot of qualifications and experience in various fields but it mostly falls into the realm of research, project managment, database work and website development (not so much the IT side more the project management, focus groups, testing and marketing etc.. ). I used to work for the Australian Government for 4 years after Uni doing the above things plus much more (market, research and policy & speech writing). I've been out of the work force for the last couple of years while I had my two children (1 & 3 year old) - did some project managment and database work in between them but nothing since 1 year old was born.
I enjoy staying at home with the kids and feel it's valuable for them. I run a small hobby business in my spare time which brings in some money but I guess I'm feeling the pressure to bring in more money (and the guilt from not bringing in money any more other than the money from my hobby businesses) and feel with all my skills I could be doing something from home.
I know there are soooooo many stay-at-home things going but I don't believe in most of them. I have found, though, that downloads (esp with my hobby business) bring in the best money as they have the lowest overheads so am writting some advice books for download as well (in my spare time).
I know I'm waffling a little but with all my skills and experience surely there is some kind of work I can do at home?
I've considered getting my old work collegues together (most are stay at home mums to now) who are qualified in similar areas .. and clubbing us all together to offer some sort of service.. but something is stopping me.. it all seems a bit too complicated and I'm really not sure where to begin.
I can't help thinking that it would be easier to offer my services to somebody myself but how to package them? any advice about direction or thoughts re my skills and how I could apply them to working at home? I guess it's direction and motivation I'm lacking

Hi Flynn,
Welcome to the forum. You should be able to build yourself a great little online income with your background and current interests.
What is your hobbie business? Why not build yourself a content website that revolves around your hobby if it's something you already enjoy and do regularly.
This is how it works...
You research to discover the phrases that people are using to search for information online relating to your hobby (niche topic). Then you build content pages on your site on each of those specific phrases.
As you grow and build, the search engines will send you free targeted traffic looking for the info. that you are providing. You can then monetize by selling products related to your hobby. If you don't want to mess with hardgoods yourself (because of the overhead and hassle) you can promote other peoples products and earn a commission on sales.
You can also write ebooks around your hobby to sell from your site, earn Google Adsense income, perhaps offer a service (depending what your hobby is) etc.
It's not too difficult to do what I am suggesting. I do that on my sites (and I had no idea where/how to start). If you think this is something you may be interested in, let me know and I'll point you in the direction of the good folks who set me on the right path.

Have you considered doing some frelance work at home? With great writing, planning, research skills etc. you should be able to find frelance work easily. You could sart with elance.com maybe. If you are writing advice books and turn them into ebooks you could always promote and sell them online.

It IS overwhelming to try to start something new - no doubt about it.
Angie had some really good advice for you - and she is an excellent coach when it comes to building those content rich websites.
Giving service of some sort is definitely a great idea - I do that, only it is in the network marketing arena but it is a fun way to go.... if you are into network marketing at all.
(much better than trying to sell, recruit or cold call - lol)

You can join freelance websites like GAF, Guru, RAC , bid on a few jobs and then decide .

I agree with happywife owning a website would be a good starting point because of the hobbies you have.
You can have a go at designing a website yourself if you have the skills or ask someone else to do it!
Thats what i had to do, have a company that had websites for me to buy off them or design from your own ideas and take control of the hosting, then i market it myself and bring the money in!
By the sound of your skills you have a lot going for you in a work from home environment so the right thing will come to you as you look for it.

Building your own website when you are just getting started can be a daunting and sometimes intimidating undertaking. I started with affiliate marketing, using article marketing to promote products. Almost every product and service has an affiliate program, so you can create a business based on your particular interests. You don't have to have a website, and it costs next to nothing to get started.
