Hi all.
I am new to the forum and want to say thanks in advance to all of you who read this.
I am a single mom of 3 and have been researching work at home for 10 years to no avail....I have tried countless opportunities and lost so much money. I cannot afford to lose any more. Plus I really don't have anymore to invest.
I'm not looking for a pitty party, I just want to know what has worked for you all that might work for me. If there is someone out there that would be willing to take a chance on me, I would greatly apprieciate it. Like I said, I have no money to invest, but I need something that works.
Thanks again for your time Shannan

Been there - done that, just don't have the t-shirt to prove it.
But have finally found some training that I wish I had found ten years ago... the best thing is that it is free training and it actually teaches anyone all the skills needed to be successful in network marketing today - with social networking.
Fun stuff.
There are a variety of ways that I know people are making money with on here and most of us have our links in our sig... but feel free to ask questions...

Hi,
I have been earning money from the internet for 6 months and am doing so well i have given up my 9-5 job in financial services. Like yourself, i am a single mom and this job now allows me to have flexibility with my children and spend precious time with them while making good money at the same time. I came across a company on the internet which i researched carefully and since making the initial phonecall i have never looked back. They have taught me all i know with one to one training 2-3 times a week over the phone.

Hi Shannan,
Just spend a few days reading previous threads on this forum. Ask some specific questions next week. If you spend the time to learn about online marketing, you'll be able to answer your own questions for the most part.
Good luck,
~Newbie Shield~

I agree with taking time to figure out what's what, that in itself is a challenge with all the scams going on. Research, research, research. Sonni

Hi, Shannan, welcome.
I've been working at home as a medical transcriptionist for 12 years. It's very steady, reliable work. Medical transcription requires training, but you can do general transcription without special training as long as you have good English skills.
Good luck to you.

Hello Shannan, welcome.
I think you should take a look at OBA (Online Business Alliance), as many people is succeeding there, even the ones that have been scammed previously.
Take care,
Carlos

Thank you everyone who has offered suggestions. I appriciate it so much. As for cupbucket, I do have 3 kids and other things to tend to. I cannot look for a job 24/7. Plus I didn't take the 10 years off to look either. I don't want a business, which you probably have by the looks of your signature. So if any of you could offer me companies maybe that would be great. Sarcasm is something I can do without.

LOL well put There are a few legitimate companies out there that hire work from home employees. Have you tried looking on craigslist and monster and such under the "telecommute" sections or filtering down. Most people working from home are working on their own businesses, some are successful and some are still working on it.
Take newbie's advice and do as much research as possible prior to signing up with anything or jumping in(sounds like that's why you're here so you're already off on a good start).
I know in the phoenix AZ area Cox Communications(cable company) has work at home customer service you can get into, pretty decent pay too, around 16-19/hr...+free services. Perhaps Cox is also in your area you could start there.
Oh and post what you find prior to joining up to see if anyone has had any experience with it, there are TONS of people here who have been around the block a few times with "working from home"
Best of luck, Gilbert

Good to Hear Shannan. Do be mindful as there are thousands of companies out there that pose as hiring companies that are doing nothing more than putting you on a mailing list with the information you send.
It's hard work finding hard work.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I've also lost thousands of dollars joining opportunities after opportunities in the past. A few reasons why this occured is because, first, I really was not aware on how to market effectively both online and offline. Second, the systems that were being utilized from these opportunities were really not designed for the average person. Meaning only the experts, or the marketing gurus have the advantage. Third, the start-up costs for those programs are just too much that it prevents prospects to join the venture. Now, all of that changed. I've taken the time to learn how to do marketing effectively both online and offline. The better part is that I have come across with a business with no out of pocket cost required to get started.

I sympathize, dolphinprncesd -
I've been spending a lot of my spare time looking for something since 1997, and have yet to find anything that actually produces a regular, sustainable income. I know nothing is guaranteed, and I understand it's going to take work - I'm not afraid of work or of taking a bit of a chance!
But I am very, VERY tired of being deceived. That's why I stopped looking for a business and started again looking for a "job." I haven't found one of those, either!
I think the most basic answer is to look for something that fits abilities you already have rather than looking to be trained Other than that, I think probably the easiest money is in Affiliate Marketing.
I will definitely let you know if I find something!
Gene.

Hey dolphin,
Firstly, do not waste your money, there are SO many resources for you to take advantage of for no money at all. They require work and effort to implement them, but you must remain focused.
If you find yourself backing off the idea of working hard, just fight with yourself and stick it out, because it is a hard road, but when you get over the learning curve you will be paid for your efforts, literally!
A fantastic source that may help you is - www.thirtydaychallenge.com ...
This is a completely free online course (for 30 days if you havnt guessed) which will take you through some great learning material and tools for you to get to grips with how the internet marketing business works. Its good to start out with and you will learn and can potentially start making money if you do well. The aim of the program is to make your first $10 online. Not alot true, however you got to learn to make $10 before you can make $100, and $100 to make $1000 and so forth.
My point, take on step at a time, take your time, learn everything and take on advice you get from these forums. This forum will be very helpful for you as it has been to me.
For any questions you might have please don't hesitate to ask here or contact me or anybody else, everyone is here to help!
I no you are not in the position to spend, however there are good online resource programs that provide you with a good amount of information for you to read through. Im not going to mention them straight off because I don't want you to feel as if you need to spend some more, because a lot of the resources are available online for free,m just a matter of finding them, and the 30 day challenge is a great place to start off.
Hope that helps.
Ajay

Hey dolphin, just realised that I may have a misconception! Are you after working at home with your own business, or just a general work from home job? Sorry if i got it wrong!

Right, when you say something that works you must focus on a program that delivers you lessons and that can teach you the strategies you need to implement in order to make that money.
As I said, www.thirtydaychallenge.com is absolutely free, u do not need to purchase anything, everything is there for you, all the methods of how to put a campaign together in order to make money. All it requires is time and effort, in this industry time and effort are the two main things u need to get successful, oh and of course, competency, which the course will teach you.
Good luck

Research is always a great way to go if you can find the time. A site that helped me research was Npros.com
Consider what field grabs your interest and what is important to you in a business, then look around to find things that fit your requirements. In example, I required: something in health and wellness field, an affordable start option, not to be forced to get auto-ships, not have much competition (unique), good comp plan,... etc. Think about what really matters to you.
Then consider that a good successful business comes from sticking with it. A lot of people give up too soon because they didn't bring in the big bucks during the first couple of months ~ it's easy to get discouraged... but hang in there! After all, if you've taken a lot of time to completely research what "fits" you best, chances are it's worth staying with it.
Forgot to add... there are also a number of other places such as wahm.com that have 'telecommuting' folders offering online jobs that aren't network marketing if you're looking to go that direction.
Hope things work out!

Alot of the answers above me pretty much say it all. I'll just add a tad bit.
Now I'm not in the US right now, but some folks in another forum love to do surveys. If you are from the US, you can try those surveys and focus groups. The audience usually target work at home moms and you should be able to qualify taking them.
I know surveys don't pay that much. But the idea is for you to get some little extra needed to use some leverage in some of the legit programs out there (that's when research again is necessary)
Just make sure you don't sign up for survey sites that ask you for money.
Or you can use the money to do offers or anything like that. Pretty much lots of ways to go about it. Good luck!

Avoid joining programs with high up front fees! Remember, it doesn't take money to make money online. Also, you have to learn how to market online effectively. There's no way around it. It's a must.

I'd like to add to that does take a little money to make big money online. It is wise to you use free cash to leverage it into something residual. Don't pay those high up front fees out of your own expense. Do some things that can earn you free money online (tons of ways) and then use that to pay some of the fees of programs that actually work (that you may wanna research on)
Good luck.

Well said Glitch; There does come a time when it's helpful to take the money you've been earning from free tactics and use it to grab a few paid resources to bring the biz to the next level.
It's inevitable. Tire kicking is necessary at first for many but it's a mistake to remain obsessed with the concept of free until the grave. I'll always make good use of free tactics but those are only a part of my tool chest.

Hi Shannon:
Just some advices when dealing with potential opportunities:
1. Deal with local companies with real people you can see and talk to.
2. If they ask you to pay money first, run.
3. If they promise you quick and easy money, run.
And last, be confident and persistent.

You need to change the brackets in your signature to [] instead of () in order to make it work.
