Hi Donald,
I won't make any assumptions about your level of online marketing education. However, I strongly suggest that you take the time to at least develop a solid understanding of the fundamentals before you move onto the practical side of making money.
You might spend a few days pouring over the forum threads to learn about SEO, driving traffic, retaining visitors, and conversions.
If after you've done some research and you still feel that you need some guidance, you can ask some questions.

Welcome to the forum!
Definitely take time to learn more about affiliate marketing before you dive in. If you don't, you'll just end up frustrated and think it doesn't work.

Welcome Donald, I have to ditto what has been said already - there are so many avenues you can take as far as websites to do affiliate marketing and unless you are able to try and fail forward until you find what works for you - it is best to do some research first.
Any good affiliate program will have all that laid out for you and will help you get started... or at least point you in the right direction.

Yes take your time and gets some knowledge of how everyting in marketing goes. This website will help a lot. People are not going to buy from your affiliate link if you dont get it out on the web and there is a lot more to that. If you put the hard work in im sure the rewards will pay off. But i think affiliate marketing is a good place to start because you get a understanding of how the business works and will get to apply that later.

You claim that you have a good affiliate program, but yet you don't know where to start. I'm concerned that your program is leaving you hanging. A good program will guide you through, although you will still have questions, but again a good program will show you where to get the answers.
I suggest start studying topics in this forum. You may not have to invest in a website immediately. You can sell affiliate products on blogs and other places as well.
There are other work at home forums on the web too. Study there as well.
Hope this helps,

Hi Donald,
I sent you a private message with a link to some free resources you can read to 'study up' on affiliate marketing. They were very helpful to me when I was first starting and didn't have the first idea how to go about it or even how it worked.
Just go to the top of this page and you'll see a link to your private messages. Hope that will give you a sound starting point.
Blessings, Angie

Donald, Do yourself a favor and check out the 30 Day Challenge all you have to do is google it. It's FREE and they show you how to get started in internet marketing without having to spend one cent. Great training and fun too, they have a forum similar to this where you can get help. There is no better place to start I say this based on experience. I am now going through the 30DC for the 2nd time because the first time I wasn't paying close attention. Since it's FREE you can't lose and it's specifically for newbies like yourself, although veterans do it too. Sonni

It is not something that is right for everyone. You get out what you put in, so just asking about a website is one thing but understand all that comes with this type of work is another. The others are right, read and educate yourself as best as possible then ask questions.

For affiliate programs, conversions depend on how targeted your traffic is.

The best way is to find one take on affiliate marketing or Internet marketing and follow that information out until you understand what it is talking about. By "take" I mean one person's explanation of the subject matter. It needs to be someone who you trust, whose opinion you value because they tell it straight as it is. A lot of people have a few pieces of the puzzle put together, but very few can show you how all the pieces come together.
If you're interested in affiliate marketing, you've chosen a good area to concentrate on to obtain your education in Internet marketing. Click on and read through some of the links in people's signatures here in this thread and you may find some worthy examples to check into.
In my opinion you won't go wrong with any information that Chris Rempel provides on affiliate marketing. He tells it like it is without beating around the bush. He's also a very successful affiliate marketer. There's a very special discussion at the following link that you may greatly profit from reading. It will give you a taste of his writing and teaching style.
Affiliate Success - It Ain't Rocket Science...
Don't be fooled by his age. This young man knows what he's doing. I've been following his advice for the past several months and have been making decent (not great) returns on effort. (Still learning how to drive targeted traffic to my websites.)
And yes, it is best that you have your own website(s) if you're going to become involved in affiliate marketing. I didn't start making any money to speak of until I had my first two sites up and running. I'd tried Squidoo lenses as landing pages for my article marketing, but that's not the same as having your own website which you can optimize for the search engines. SEO (search engine optimization) isn't all that difficult to learn and implement. But you do need to learn about and know how to do it if you want to use free sources of traffic rather than pay-per-click advertising, the latter of which can be tricky to learn (meaning you could end up losing hundreds of dollars before you figured out how to do it right if you don't know what you are doing with programs like Google Adwords).
Wishing you the best in your efforts.
Thom

Hi,
I have been an affiliate marketer for 6 months and am making good money from it. This is due to the company i came across on the internet which has taught me all i know. They produce a fantastic website of your choice and give one to one training over the phone 2 or 3 times a week. You can even go to their offices for training if you wish. I have never looked back after making that initial phonecall and have now given up my full time job in financial services.

Vishal P. Rao: Thanks for sharing the link Thom01. It's really an amazing read. You're welcome, Vishal.
Yes, it is an "amazing read," isn't it.
If more people interested in Internet marketing were able to come across this level of quality instruction, there'd be less people dropping out of I.M. and more pursuing their goal of making money online. Give people the correct information and then let them take off with it. Of course, one does need to develop some skills along the way (like learning how to build a website and how to work with the basics of html) but after one feels comfortable with this, the sky is the limit as far as what you can appreciably achieve in the Internet.
The route to success is first to educate yourself with valid information and then begin taking action. It's much easier to succeed when you have a plan that's based on reality and you know where that plan is going to take you. Of course, staying focused on achieving the implementation of that plan is another hurdle that many have to overcome. That is, don't become sidetracked by every new program that comes down the pike. Just stay focused on your own system and keep working at implementing your plan, and you will eventually begin to succeed!
Best wishes for all,
Thom

Hello donald236,
This is the very best advice I have to offer:
Take the Thirty Day Challenge.
It ended August 31st, however you can sign up and get the daily lessons via email. All of the content will be available throughout the year, as well as the forum.
This is a totally free opportunity, and was designed for beginners. There are no sales pitches.
Now, if I had not had the foundation I received at Wealthy Affiliate University, I would have been somewhat overwhelmed.
However, there is no hurry about any of this, you can take as long as you need to complete the lessons and tasks..no matter what your schedule and level of experience, I urge you to check it out.
You will also have a 40 day trial to the most awesome marketing tool to date! Promise! And a free website!
I hope this helps!
Victoria
P.S. I just read Sonni's Post, (Hi Sonni) and I also am taking it twice. I really "got into it"....and typically read things twice, as the second time around things really start to come together.

Hi Victoria, We both agree on the 30DC it's the best free or even paid training of it's kind around why anyone, even veterans, wouldn't check it out is beyond me. Everyone will learn something, plus Ed is really good at teaching, very knowledgeable, funny and entertaining. I can't say I recommend Wordpressdirect, it has a lot of quirks and is driving newbies crazy. I won't touch it I got enough problems, lol. Sonni

I have only been doing affiliate marketing for about a month now. There is a lot to know. I came into this knowing nothing so it has been a long road. The company I'm working for has given me alot of advice that has helped out alot. It's nice to be able to talk to someone when you run in to a problem. I have also learned quit a bit just from reading through this forum. There is a ton of information here. I also think I am going to check out this 30 Day Challenge. It sounds like it could help me out some.

There are many free platforms out there for you to choose from. You can go completely free using Blogger or Wordpress.com. Or pay for a domain and hosting and go for Wordpress.org. Or go for an already optimized blog at Wordpress Direct. I think Weebly is free if you want a static site. You have options and suggest you research. My 2 cents. Sonni

In order to do Affiliate marketing, first you need to have a unique website. What I mean unique is that the website must have content that people want to read and come back often. You can have hundreds website. But if people don't want to come, you cannot make money. So first think about what you are good at and have passion. Then start a website about that topic. Update the site everyday with interesting new things. More and more people come. Then some of them will buy the products. That's when you make money.

You don't need a website. You don't need any money. You don't need any experience. You can learn on the go with some simple, proven techniques that take advantage of the freedom that the internet, so generously supplies.
First find a mentor who will teach you how to build your business organically using affiliate marketing. There are hundreds of fee-less things you could do for a few hours each day to make you thousands each month. This person should be willing to show you the exact system they use, or would use if they were starting from the bottom.

I'll get to the nuts and bolts. You first need to have the right mindset. You have to know "why" you're getting into affiliate marketing. What is it really that you would like to accomplish? One you've determined your "why", you then must take action. This action involves marketing and advertising effectively. You have to be willing to take some time to learn effective online marketing. Most importantly, you must be consistent in applying the knowledge. Be persistent and consistent with your online business and you should see results.

My advice - start by learning HTML. It'll make your life so much easier once you start getting down and dirty with setting up and tweaking your content-rich affiliate sites...
