Hi there. I'm still in the early stages of my work-at-home quest. Right now, I am not looking to invest money, and so I have signed up for a few GPT or PTC sites to get a little bit of money rolling in. One of the reasons I do not want to invest right now, is because I'm so skeptical that everything is a scam. Obviously, if someone takes your money, there's the potential for it to be a scam, and you lose that money. But I'm wondering, are there any hidden scams out there? In other words, are their other ways to get scammed other than paying someone and not getting anything in return. I.E. banking information, social security number, etc.
For instance, on some of the free offers that come up on the GPT sites, it is a banking or finance company wanting your bank information. That just seems shady to me. Does anyone have any insight into this topic?

Yes, there is a lot of 'scams' around the internet.
You have to be really careful with your money.
Always do research before jumping into any opportunity presented to you.
And lastly, you can always try out writing articles for people or doing survey online to make money. Some are free.

Hi mclaug43,
Lots of scams take your info and money without giving you anything significant in return.
The best defense is to do proper research.
If you are concerned about your bank information, create a secondary account with very little cash at any given moment in the account. Just transfer enough funds in there to do your transactions. Add and remove funds as needed.
I'd be very hesitant about giving out my SS# to anyone. There would have to be a good reason for it. You can always submit the true number later on if necessary.
I wouldn't waste my precious time on GPT or PTC programs. They don't pay well and many are tainted.
Keep a regular job until your online income can support you.

Hi mclaug43,
Not only should they seem shady, you should run for the hills! There are so many legitimate affiliate programs out there that I find it hard to believe that you can't find one out there that promotes products and services you enjoy personally and might like to promote from home or online.
Almost every offline company you know is safe has an online affiliate program that allows the everyday person to promote their products.

The best thing of all is to get educated on how all these things work and then you won't get scammed again - ever!
I had a chat with a guy recently that was trying to get me to pay him $200 to sign into a pre-launch program that they were going to launch here real soon - something to do with a gas card.
There were scam signs all over it...
1)There was no website where one could research the company
2)There is no product as of yet - only promises on one
3)No policies you could read - yet
4)you have to join NOW in order to be making - get this - three thousand a week when they launch
5)"I would pay the $200 for what,"I asked... You are buying your downline, was the reply - LOL as if you could BUY a downline..
But people are signing up for it because they do not know how to identify scams. Sad. He didn't like me much - I asked too many questions and he basically said he didn't have time to waste with the likes of me.

There are many companies which do not pay you as promised after you complete the work .

What I have found after trial and error is finding something that has been around for while, more than five years, and there is sufficient evidence and information about the company. If something has been around for longer than five years you would easily be able to find out if it is a scam or not. And I can't imagine a scam being able to survive for five years anyway.

Whenever I get asked by anyone for my credit card details I always decline unless I know it's a reputable site.
If you come across some thing you're not sure about, just type in the name of it followed by the word "scam" into Google and see what comes up. Doing this helped me out greatly!

Hi,
when i want to check out a site for trustworthiness before i buy from them, i usually check the whois.com website. It tells you how long its been around for registrant etc. BBB.com - better business bureau for US based sites.

The only one that has ever scamed/ripped me off is Deagan Smith
Don't get his free cd that cost $6.77 for shipping!
The day after I purchased this they charged my card $267.00
I had an online account with less than $100.00 in it just for this reason
well I saw it when I checked my account,in the pending area so I called
the bank,they shut my account down and turned it in to the fraud
dept,then charged me over $1200.00 in overdraft fees and anything else they could think of,then closed the account no more charges,
they say it will be resolved in 45 days wrong!they give deagan 60 days
to reply to the fraud dept! this was on the 20th of july haven't heard
a word in 2 weeks now and they are suppose to call me as soon as
they here from deagan! The problem was they only take credit cards
only use paypal/alertpay/goldpay/safepay/this way you can get your money back which I have done! I fixed the whole problem and got in cash gifting because all my accounts were shut down I took this as a sign started gifting fixed the problem! Hope this helps you it helped me now I don't have to go to the therapist this week! LOL
