Every time I tell myself I will finally sit down and make a squidoo lens I get horribly bogged down in trying to figure it all out. Am I just overthinking and its easy or is it as complex as I find it to be?

I am new to the whole Squidoo thing, and am therefore not an expert by any means....but I really like it! I have only been doing IM for a month now and am focusing on free marketing, so I try to either make a lens or write articles every day.
I personally find Squidoo very easy to use. Registering is easy, making the lens is easy, and it is actually kind of fun adding different kinds of content. Give it a try, and I'm sure you will find that actually MAKING the lens is not that hard.
BUT, getting traffic to it can be hard. I have problems getting my lenses indexed on Google, so they don't get much organic traffic. I have also written dozens of articles that link to my Squidoo lenses. That has helped a little, but not too much yet. I need to write more articles I guess.
Anyway, give it a try and I'm sure you'll like it. If you need any help, there are some experts here that I'm sure will chime in (I'm not one of them, though, LOL). Good luck!

Squidoo is very easy to learn and navigate.
They have preset modules and you can add them as you wish.
There is at least two threads on this forum that deal with Squidoo. I suggest you find them and read them over.
I only have one lens but it converts for my business really well. I dont make any money off the lens itself, but you can if you do it right.

Squidoo has an easy user interface, and the websites you create, they called it lenses. As long as you have great content feeding to these lenses constantly, traffic will come naturally.
I have not start using squidoo extensively myself but have heard great success from people who used them to promote their websites or products.

Start simple with just a couple of modules.
Make sure your modules have good content.
Review some of the top Squidoo lenses for inspiration and then implement the principles on your lenses.
Repeat.

Hi Purple,
Lens creation is easy, fun, addictive, and worthwhile.
Last year, before I made my first lens, I popped around Squidoo each day for a couple of weeks. I located and read as many how-to lenses as I could. You might find that helpful, I sure did. After you do that, it should be a piece of cake.
A little bit of footwork goes a long way :)

I finally figured out how to do a Squid. I'm not sure if I did it right but at least I did something. There were a few things I didn't know what to do like the rss feed I didn't know what that was so I did nothing. I didn't know what the url was to the page and still don't. I imagine I'll figure this out soon. Better to do something than nothing. Sonni

Well said.
Even if you screwed up an entire lens you could always start over. But then you would have the experience to make it better. And everything on the page except the URL are easily changed.

I have just started using Squidoo and personally i find it very easy to use. I read a couple of their how to use squidoo pages which explains all the HTML codes (how to add pics etc) and after reading through those i found it to be a walk in the park. Easy to navigate, add modules, add videos, i find it simple.
I would advise you read those pages that i was talking about, i know it is a bit of a pain reading through a lot of writing but it is actually quite interesting, you will learn new things and it will certainly make it easier for you. Here are the links to the pages:
http://www.squidoo.com/basichtml
http://www.squidoo.com/first_lens
As stated above by another member, the difficult stage is getting lots of traffic to your Squidoo page and getting it to a high ranking in google's search page. That is where i am up to now, so i will get back to you soon with any help in that department
Hope i helped

Give it a few more tries. Then you will realize that it is quite simple to use.
I have the same frustration when i did my first lens.

A really well done lens always looks good for the product, service, or page you're writing about. I've come across quite a few lenses and was tempted to buy things I really had no desire to purchase. hehe
I've been putting off taking the time to learn how to create and actually create them way too long.

I think you must be overcomplicating here - really easy to use - must be if I can do it ! Now I'm working on really monetizing this and getting some real bucks out of it!

I like the Squidoo wizards for Squidoo and SquidWho. I answer the questions for the initial content and then I progressively improve the content after they have been published. After a while it becomes fun and rewarding.

I've just started using Squidoo and made my first lens yesterday. It was a bit daunting at first just understanding what to put where and how to organise it, but with a bit of reading up on how to get started and what to put where, I found it was great and I was impressed with my efforts.
It's worth a try.

The more lenses you make the easier it gets. Monitor your lens traffic and take advantage of all the great feedback you get about your lens from Squidoo. Click on the 'Health' tab for each of your lenses in the "My Lenses" section of your dashboard - and be sure to check out "Squidaholic"!
Always use what you learn to make your next lens even better.

Fun stuff isn't it?
NewbieShield has an awesome how-to lens ... I refer to it almost every time I work on my lenses and it would be a great help to you. You might have to ask him for it as it is not in his sig anymore....
Have fun!

I dont know about addictive. For me its a pain, but its something i gotta do. But generally when you get started, it becomes easier. Getting started is the hardest part for me.

I agree making lenses on squidoo is quite fun once you get a hang of it.
Now if we can see earning coming it would be even more fun. (sigh)

Making lens in squidoo is not that much difficult. The first time, I had some touch time. But just 15 minutes of surfing made things easy. It is well set up and easily understandable.
Hope this helps.

Hi KA,
Some make over 1K/mo directly from their lenses.
Additionally, you can get traffic and back links.
I've had decent success and I only have four lenses to date. Recently I was paid $150 just for goofing off. Plus the learning value is quite high.
I suggest to arrange for co-op pay, money modules, and affiliate links - a triple play.
In addition, as mentioned above, you get traffic to your main site if you simply link to it. Furthermore, you get a boost in PR from your lenses if you link to your main site.
Worse case scenario is you learn quite a bit about what works and what doesn't. At the very least, consider it a training grounds for online marketing.

Hi Dayec,
Co-op = Adsense and Glam ads cooperative income - split by lensrank.
Yep, money modules such as Amazon, Ebay, and other.
