I have had pretty good luck with eBay. They are easy to work with, and your sale items get viewed by (potentially) the world. I would suggest that you sell stuff you have first. That way you can get the feel for how eBay works, and the market for items you are interested in selling. I used to sell items at auctions starting at 99 cents, but regular auction prices have gone up quite a bit. I've had to go back and refigure prices that will sell, yet I can still make a profit.
If you are a garage sale person, or like to shop the thrift stores, you can find some goodies at these places, also.
If you have a favorite hobby, you can frequently get their email information, or the address of the company, and write for wholesale or dealer information. Or if you have a product you'd like to sell, you can contact the maker of the product the same way.
I believe the really trick to making money on eBay is to know what items are sellin for in the auctions. You have to do research to find realistic prices, and you have to know exactly what you have. Please describe your product accurately, because its a pain to get an item and find it's not what you believed it would be.
Pictures can help you with descriptions. A digital camera, even a cheap one, can be a great asset to this aspect of selling stuff on ebay. The only problem with researching eBay is that you will be tempted to buy, also. Look out for that!
Some people buy wholesale and sell retail on eBay. I've had some success with that, also. Offer an incentive, such as free shipping or a discount for multiple items bought.
An accurate postal or other type scale is also a great asset to determining accurate shipping weights and costs.
Try selling a few items in the line you'd like to deal in before you really invest alot of money. Make sure there is a market out there before you buy lots of items. Or, buy something you like in bulk, so there will be a few for you, and a few for the auction.
Lastly, I have discovered that I can affort to buy an eBay store and items still sell pretty well. The store fees are reasonable, and you can still sell items.
I can go on for a long time about this subject. If you have any specific questions, let me know.
