Hi mascot_k,
Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of nice people here in the forum.
Do you have any ideas at all as to the type of online marketing you would like to get into? There are various ways to make money on the net, but to make "real money" as you put it,  you will have to get into some kind of marketing.
Affiliate marketing - you promote other people's products and earn a commission on sales or leads. You can build your own website on a particular niche topic and promote the products that way. You could write articles on subjects related to the products that you promote and market that way. You can even advertise (free/paid) the products that you want to promote.
Network marketing - (MLM) you promote products and business opportunities to others and earn commissions also. Generally you will be required to purchase the products yourself in order to stay 'active' and receive commissions. You will also receive commissions on the product purchases for a number of levels based on a tiered referral structure. The marketing is similar that of affiliate marketing, but has some various nuances that are too in depth for this simple post.
Market your own products or services - You can develop your own product or service and offer them through the same marketing methods as mentioned above. The advantage of this is you get the full profit while the disadvantage is that you have to handle all the gritty details.
Combination of the others - you can incorporate a bit of each of those forms of marketing (and probably more) into a business and have an income with "multiple streams." Many marketers believe this is the wisest decision.
Well, those are a few options to give you something to think about. Before you jump into some form of marketing, study the different models and be sure you are comfortable with and committed to the path you are going to take.
Realize that ANY and ALL of them will take some time and investment to make a reality. How much time and money you have to invest will also factor in to how long it will take you to start making decent money.
I don't know what the economy is like in your country, but in some countries, even a small measure of success can make a really big financial difference.

Welcome! Since you are from Africa, some of the options may not be available to you, but you can work as a freelance initially to earn some money.

Freelance just means that you hire out your services to whoever you want to. You basically work for yourself and not one particular company.
A "freelance journalist" would write for various magazines or newspapers, etc.
You generally would do freelance work on a per piece basis - per article, etc.
Hope that clarifies it a bit.

There are places like getafreelancer.com and mechanicalturk.com where you can bid on jobs people need done. Just look through and see what categories you think you can do a good job with.
It may take a little time to build up a good reputation, but if that's what you want to do long term I suspect that it would be necessary.
