My biggest motivation to work from home was Independence and Internet.
I was very independent right from my childhood. I never liked to depend on anybody for any reason whatsoever. However, at same time I was not sure what I wanted to do after my studies. Being a typical Gemini and jack of all, master of none, my interests too fluctuated like the stock market index.
The breakthrough came when I did a course on web designing, just to pass time, so I could contemplate what I exactly wanted to do in life. After that I was simply hooked on the Net. It proved to be a perfect platform to unleash my creativity and satisfy my varying interests. Seriously, if it was not for the Internet, I wouldn't have been working from home.
What is your motivation?

After experiencing three consecutive job losses due to companies going out of business, then a failed business partnership, I was motivated to find a way to generate an income I could control.
It had to challenge my creative skills and utilize my wide experience in business management.
Working from home via the Internet seemed to offer the greatest leverage and opportunity. Problem was, I knew nothing about e-commerce.
So in 2000 I started reading everything I could about the Web and Internet marketing. I studied search engine optimization, Web design, html, css, javascript, marketing strategies and all the components necessary to develop a Web business.
I subscribed to dozens of ezines (including yours Vishal) and soaked up all the wisdom I could find that was Internet related. Then I started applying what I learned and slowly began to make money.
That learning period was my most valuable investment.
Today I make my living online, and enjoy the freedom, flexibility and ability to order my life however I choose.

For me it was a chance to be closer to my family. I didn't like the rigid corporate structure and the whole work-life balance was out of whack. The only way for me to bring any sort of sanity into my life was to work from home - and I'm enjoying it!
I've had a lot of fun working with people to solve their creative challenges - I love people! It's very satisfying helping others - and thus myself - succeed.

I have a mental disorder called agoraphobia (its a social anxiety disorder). So I have no choice. I NEED to work at home. Hope I get a chance to work with some of you guys. Just no phone calls or face to face meeting ;)
Besides having that little problem, I love working at home because I can't stand having to take orders from a boss. Or have someone breathing down the back of your neck all day.
Also, the fact I get to make my own schedule, that's always nice. It's not always fun waking up at 6 AM to rush out the door to go to a job you don't even want to do.
Basically, my motivation is my health. Thanks for listening.

Hi Everyone;
I recent did the mid-life crisis job change thing. I found a new job that is really great and helps people, but doesn't pay near as much as my old job did. I am much happier, but having a bit of a problem paying my bills. Working at home allows me to bring in some extra income while being at home. I can keep my physical and mental stress levels down, and concentrate on doing work I like to do as well as keeping the bills paid. I can also set my own hours, unlike some jobs. I can work as much or as little extra as I'd like, for the most part. I can also share my work-at-home experiences with others. I really enjoyed being at home with my daughter when she was little. I believe the experience strengthened our relationship, and hope that the time I spent at home when she was little made both of us better people. Working at home is great for many reasons, and if I can help people figure out how to do it, I'm all for that!

I love to create every day as it happens.
I hate being on other people's schedules.
I also love the fact that what I do allows me to experience just about anything that interests me and follow whatever intrigues me.

My biggest motivation to work at home came in the form of my son.
Before I had a child, I was like I could never be a stay at home mom. What do you do all day besides watching TV and being bored.
Well I definitely had a reality check once I got married and had my first child. Getting off work at 4pm, trying to spend time with my son, who has been at the babysitter's all day, then giving my husband his quality time, cooking, cleaning, running errands......it gets tiring. I love taking care of my family, and I want that to be my primary job, and my work to be my secondary. I want to know that I am the one raising my child. I am the one feeding my husband, not some fast food restuarant most of the time.
So that is my biggest motivation to work from home.

I hated working for other people. I felt like I was being taken advantage of and making someone else rich. While I tried to place great pride in what I did for them they gave me nothing in return. The area I lived in was full of uneducated condescending hicks! Here I was with a college education already feeling like I had failed because my dead end jobs had so many people above me with little or no education and were honestly(most of them) promoted for kissing butt instead of kicking butt. So I met an inspirational person... My wife... who believed in me more than I did and forced me to take a chance on myself and follow my dream instead of someone elses and it has been all downhill from there. Now I feel rewarded every day. I do what I want, when I want and I make decent money doing it. I think every man should follow his dream and take a chance on himself as I did and start his own business.

I guess my biggest motivation to work at home was a desire to get out of New York in 1990.
If you'll remember, it was the Gulf War and there was little going on in the way of interesting jobs for entry level folks like I was. I decided to move out of NY and chose DC as a landing place.
I was broke and the only way I could see even getting enough gas money together to run back and forth while I moved was to take my crafts to shows both in NY and in DC (turning my moving into a business expense ;-).
I've been working for myself ever since. Now why I chose NWM and internet marketing as a vehicle for income streams the last few years is another story entirely ... you can read all the gory details inmy 'NWM Success Story' if you're curious <grin>.

I have been self-employed off and on since I was a pup. Ranging from having a moving (hauling) company, to bill collecting.
I think being a bill collector was the worst, but in that job I learned to like computers. I kept playing with the computer until I started to learn the system, eventually ended up running a dialing system, itegrating Data point & Facs systems (you must be old) with the autodialer.
I got "voluntarily resigned" for trying to start my own agency. Then they had no one to run their system, and paid me $75/hr to consult.
Paid expences to travel to all their branches. Then they changed the computer from main frame to server based.
I found that working at home on the internet suits me better than traveling to all those different places. Its nice but hard to do & keep a relationship going.
I still consult, but mostly over the phone, or over the internet.
I don't know if that's motivation, or I just found my niche.

I pretty much ended up working from home by accident. I moved from Redmond, WA to Denver, CO in 2003. I told my boss in Redmond that I was moving, and that I was giving 3 weeks notice. He asked if I would be willing to work from here for "a couple of months" to help them out. It turned out it worked quite well, and I'm still working for the same company from here. I love it!

Time/Money
Plus about a half a million other things .
I have dealt with the loss of more than one child
extended health issues with in the family
being a manager above teenagers with someone younger than me as my boss and a job
in healthcare that required changing diapers for a living , I do that at home anyway, but so much more pleasent when it is your baby as opposed to a teenager or adult that is rather moody .
It all became such a stinky situation and if I spend many more nights not being able to tuck my baby in bed, my sanity will be gone and that I still have so I mustn't loose it. The hugs are so much more worth it than having to run out the door and miss spending my married life with my spouse. We use to work together then we work apart and I enjoy being with my spouse and if we can be together with the family and still make money instead of only spending it that is what happiness is, Freedom to enjoy my life and be with the people that I care about and love without worries.

I was totally ignorant about Internet marketing till the middle of 2002. I received an email from an unknown person with "do you have a computer at home" in the subject line. I had just purchased a computer. Out of curiosity I opened that email. It contained an ad of a good company. As I had a lot of free time that day I signed up for the program since it was free. I was taken by surprise when I received an email within 2 minutes asking me to confirm my signup ( I knew nothing about autoresponders at that time). As I continued I started getting step by step instruction on how to proceed. I was quite impressed with the program particularly because it did not promise quick money or ask me to invest money immediately. The program provided me with a lot of information on Internet marketing for free. As I continued to learn I was really fascinated by Internet marketing. The fact that I could work totally independently and be my own boss gave me all the motivation I needed. When a few institutions I worked for stabbed me in the back I firmly resolved to succeed in online business. I worked hard and designed my own website. When I earned a few dollars I had no doubt that I had taken a step in the right direction. Even though I am yet to make big money I am quite sure of making enough money online.

I work at the post office in downtown Chicago. Hate It. I had a baby boy on April 20. Right now, I have some leeway with the job beyond FMLA for bonding with child and breastfeeding. I tried to go back to work but pumping wasn't working for me, so I stuck with full-time working at home.
No support from family. I only enrolled my cousin in California at the beginning (very supportive). The rest are so negative. They wanted me to go back to work because their not seeing any REAL money. I told them it takes time, but to them, they think I should stop breastfeeding, take my lazy A$$ back to work, and do this part-time. But my shift is 7pm-3am, you can even ask mentor about that one, I just couldn't do both. And the baby! I was a zombie. There was no way.
Then when I tried to work my warm market of co-workers and get phone #'s and emails, they wanted to start a business, then they go to my website. The first thing out their mouths the next day or two was, "Who the hell is that white lady with kids? I thought you said you had your own website?"
So.. after I started doing research on marketing better, signing up for newsletters, and finding free advice from the so called gurus, it came down to one truth, "The key to success for affiliations is to still have your own website, make it more personal and about you, you pics., your story, your WHY." And add alot stuff to do on it, make it very interactive. Still working on blogs and RSS feed stuff, but I'm getting there. Considering how much it cost to learn all this stuff in a college class, I'm very proud of myself. Soon I will not need a template, and can make a website from scratch, that's my goal.
My grandmother died (mom side) a week before my son was born. So I couldn't make the funeral because I had a c-section and was in the hospital. That was sooo hard, because I couldn't be too depressed for my baby's sake. Then, three weeks later, recovering over my dad's house, my dad's older brother died. Boy, that was hard too. My dad didn't take it well. So, a month after that, my dad had a heart attack. Scared me again. He end up having triple by-pass. So we stayed with him, for his recovery.
All the time,my mentor, is trying to get in contact with me for MomsWin. But, of course, I'm ignoring her calls because I was also looking to buy a house, so I just thought she was another loan officer for moms or something. I forgot all about the work at home thing. Just deleting her emails without opening them, erasing her voicemails. Then I finally read one. Looked at her website, and sent her an email, apologizing to her about screening my calls.
She was very understanding, and after I heard the overview call, I said to myself, "THIS IS IT, WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!" And the first thing that popped in my mine was my 8yrs old autistic daughter, and how grateful I was, because I no longer had to worry about her swallowing too much toothpaste when I brushed her teeth since I can't get her to spit it out. She doesn't understand spitting. So it wasn't the money or the business, but the safer products, so I knew I found my WHY, my passion, etc.
Then my slum landlord decides to redo the bathroom and kitchen while we were gone, and got dust all over our stuff. So we begin to move out. All the while, my mentor is trying to train me, then all of a sudden, her daughter breaks her arm. Slowed both of us down. I barely got enrollments, and so did she. I had first hand experience about the "do as I do, not as I say" motto, so what we do, reflects on our team members no matter what happens.
So I finally gave up on the post office and just took off. I haven't been back since September. I got more enrollments, but was short by two, and I tried my warm market again for that last two enrollments, but no one was helping me. That's sucked. But after that, I got two enrollments on Oct 1. And then another. And they just kept coming at a steady pace. Working with two business builders right now, both of them got an enrollments already thanks to me and mentor from an in-home, and I'm trying my best, not to go into management mode. Boy I didn't realize how hard not going into management mode was.
Now, I have to start all over again with my training, boy I love this stuff, continuously learning is the key to success, I'm soooo happy. Even if I do go back to work, it will take 3 weeks to get a desent check, longer for unemployment, WIC, aid, etc... or being able to afford gas. And going back to work will be even more depressing than all this! The only reason I'm considering going back now is for warm market. So that's still going back and forth in my brain.
Then comes my website again. What progress... and the people I'm meeting is incredible. I'm gaining more respect from my dad. He's been more supportive. But I'm his secretary and accountant at the same time for free, because I'm using all his resources at home to build my business. But he understands that he needs me to do this. If he want me to make his website for (Rush Office), than he's not standing in my way anymore. My mom is still very negative, but I'm at the point, that I can block her out. But we have to apply for more funds or grant money for this because we need a merchant account and ecommerce package. So, he's struggling too. But having his support makes it soo much better around the house. I like having things on the up and up. He knows it takes money to make it, so I'm working with him.
You know what I'm starting to notice. After I heard everyone's story here, and hearing other's and their WHYs, it's seems like, the harder it was for you to make it in life, the more successful you are in changing your situation. So I know I'm under sooo much stress and pressure, but I feel great. This is so unreal. I'm more afraid to go back to work, then losing my furniture. I'm more afraid not using my brain, then my credit score dropping... again.
So, I've been networking my website the old fashion way. Ezines, banners, forums, submissions, optimization, webrings, traffic exchanges, banner exchanges, getting free advice from everyone I meet, because they say I have spunk. Or I get the WOW's your website is strong and deep... You're going to do GREAT, GOOD LUCK..! So, I know I'm on the right track, and I'm staying focus. Still working on time management and my posture. I wasn't staying in control of my life, but now everything is falling into place.
You know the funny thing is, everyone struggled at the beginning.. No matter who tells the story, everyone had it hard, and just learned from their mistakes and kept moving forward. So even though I have alllllll these problems going on, I feel right at home in my PJ's

For me it was the freedom and getting to the "goal" which is more time and more money for my family than if I was doing anything else in the world. I'm happy to say that I'm achieving that now. You gotta remember that the "goal" is the family and not the business itself!

I prefer to work at home because I don't like the office politic! I just left a company where full of rumous and politic! I was really tired about that!
I worked in a big broadcasting company in my country previously, it's the same thing, politic everywhere even when I do not want to touch to that, people will just bombard here and there if just so coincident that I'm in the same department or doing the same project.
Later I shift to another department, it's better but it's become so boring I have to pretend and to avoid those small circle in the office to avoid rumous and politic kind of thing 
I finally resigned from the company due to my son asthmatic problem getting worse.
After two years, when my son condition getting better, I jump back to work, but the politic thing still make me haedache!
So now I decided to work at home, and planning to earn enough to support myself to go back for further study

My motivation to work from home was my family. I have a 4 year old, who has some speech problems, and I work with him alot to get him ready for kindergarden, and working from home allows me to spend more time with him.
Also, I make more working from home. The area I live in, your lucky to make more than minimum wage, unless you have a college degree, the bad thing is, that I do, and I still make more working from home.
Another reason is independence. I can take my own hours, work when I want to, and draw as much of a paycheck as I need, not to mention, that travel time is none, (with gas prices this last summer, that was important). I don't have to worry about what I wear, I can pretty much do what I will, and I don't have to ask to go to the bathroom hehe
But seriously, working from home has alot of rewards, I love it!!
