It certainly is a lot of work to build an online business, but it is worth it if you can stick it out with a bit of perseverance and patience.
When I started online, the advice I was given was to think about what I really enjoyed, what I was good at, what I already had a keen interest in or knowledge about, etc. This was good advice. Believe it or not, I started my first online business about chocolate candy!
That was just the beginning, but it was a good beginning. Learning to build a website with no prior experience and one that actually generated targeted traffic without paying for ads was a challenge. The company I use to build, host, and maintain my business is great (I highly recommend them), but it still took a lot of effort on my part. I'm glad I chose something that I really enjoyed - albeit a bit too much.
To make a success of an online business, you have to put in a lot of time and effort, so you might as well choose something that really appeals to you or you will be much more likely to give up.
I hope this will encourage you to know that you CAN do it, if you are willing to put in the effort. The right tools are a must, but you have to provide the brains and effort.
Don't waste your time and energies on claims of get rich quick. Be sure you are offered a money back guarantee if there is an investment. Do your research and choose wisely.
All the best to the Work at Home Moms.

Hi,
I think that working from home is awsome. I am preparing myself for the ability to work at home before I have children, so that I can home school them. I have found a great MLM that has a great product and compesation plan. Not alot of upfront cost. The income potential is all up to you. I don't think anything should come easy, if it does it is too good to be true. There is no such thing as get rich quick. Everything takes time. If you have the desire and know your product, you can make a great residual income.

Hi everyone, I am a work at home mom. I have two little ones, my daughter is turning two in january and my son is four. When I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter, I began looking for a work at home business. I tried so many different programs, and ad little or no luck, actually I found alot of scams. But eventually I found a real work at home opportunity that had a great product, excellent support and training. This opportunity gave me more free time with my kids, especilly since my daughter is entering her terribly twos stage.

I am a Stay at Home Mom that has recently started to make some extra income from my family. I have been looking for something to do from home. I have tried the eBay route, but it seems like some months I owe more in eBay fees then I earned.
Recently have been trying GPT sites as well as mystery shopping. I have been paid doing both! We are not going to get rich off of it, but the extra money does help.
I love being home with my son and I continually am looking for new free ways to earn additional income from home.

WesKate, I tried something like that last year. It was a waste. They basically just gave you instructions for applying to paid to read emails and paid survey sites - again, a waste of time. Survey's you can earn a few dollars, but nothing consistent or worthwhile. They also told you how to place ads for their own opportunity which was getting more people to sign up for the same email offer you received - a vicious circle of nothing, in my opinion.
Type at home jobs should be just that - jobs. You shouldn't pay for them. If you want to start a business, that is different and will require some type of investment even if it is just web hosting, etc.
I'm just saying based on my experience, don't waste your $50 on that one.

Hi I've been working at home in my own business since August last year. I'm a success! In fact I'm proud to stay I have a HBB. I work with CWB --
My advice is do your home work BEFORE investing one thin dime!!! Ask Hard and pointed questions. Keep an open mind and listen to the answers.
When all is said and done then make your decision. Don't just jump into something and don't let the person you're talking to Bully YOU!!!
Be upfront with the person, if you don't have the money to invest - and you are truely interested - Ask if they have any suggestions. They may be willing to work with you and even get you going on your training! Best of Luck.

Hello moms,
I'm new to this particular forum. I too am a work at home mom.
It took me a long time to really figure out how to get started. I had heard of affiliate marketing, and paid surveys, and those 'free money making websites' that you can get. I tried a variety of different options and found that the best thing to do was to try and build content on a website based on what I actually have information about.
I kept on thinking that I had finally found 'the one' that would allow me to stay at home with my son. I'm a single mom and I wanted it so bad. But, there is work involved, don't be mislead.
It can be done, but it is a process. I had to learn everything from scratch. I had no idea what HTML was or an autoresponder or anything else. I just had affiliate links and no where to put them!
I got sick and had to stop working and that's when it became necessary for me to figure it out. Once I finally had the right mindset, it wasn't long before I had my vision live online. I just made sure I knew what I was doing and had a plan before I built my site.
Now, it is so much fun adding new things to my website because it looks just like I imagined it when I first started really brainstorming.
So, in the end, I found that there are no get rich quick schemes that actually work. There is really a rhyme and reason to online marketing, you just have to get good information. Then, figure out what you have to offer and remember that the best way to get people to see your website is to offer them something useful to begin with.
Remember, people go on line to find information more than any other reason.
Good luck to all you work at home moms.

I recently started working from home and although I have two children under age two and a husband, I find it rewarding to do more to help with our family's financial situation. I have tried many work from home programs but none that worked and actually paid as well as what I'm doing now.
All mothers deserve to make a financial contribution if they so desire. Hopefully you will find what you need.

I am a work-at-home mom and love it. I do medical transcription and make really good money doing it. It is hard to balance the family and work, and to keep disciplined to do the amount of work I need to, but it is soooo worth it. The flexibility of my job is the best part.

I am a work at home mom of 4 children, and I would not have it any other way. I am part of an amazing company, and am able to provide for my family more than if I were working a 9-5 job. I love being able to be there when my older kids get home from school, and enjoy being the one raising my 15month old. I didn't want some one else enjoying my baby, and this opportunity has allowed me to be the mom I wanted to be. I hope that more moms are able to work at home and enjoy their kids.

I am a work-at-home mom. I do medical transcription, which pays really well and I have tons of flexibility. It is honestly the best decision I have ever made to work at home. I love being able to be here for my kids and participate in school functions, etc. It might not be for everyone, but it was definitely the right thing for me and my family.

Yes Viola, I did set up my own website.
It really gives you a lot of creative freedom. I never had any luck with those "cookie cutter" websites that you get for free.
I was able to really laser target my niche this way.
The Newbie Helpsite was born when I was first starting out with my home based business and had so many questions and no one to explain it to me in 'layman's term.' I decided that my mission was to help people.
It's really easy to get scammed in the 'work from home' niche. there are so many options out there and they all sound good at first, but I actually got sick and was not able to work so...
I had plenty of time on my hands to research and learn. I was a plug in profit site while I learned and I stayed with the same host because they really got me through a lot of technical difficulties in the beginning.
The website editor available for download (free) on my tools page is what I used to create the entire site.
I'm experimenting with others now, but the one I use is SO EASY. I never even knew what HTML meant when I started, now I'm working on Lead Capture pages, sales pages, and all kinds of other goodies for my second website.
I would love to give you tips on how to build your website.
In fact, you just gave me a great idea. I have an Ezine that comes with free "newbie internet marketer" tips.
I'm going to make a mini course on website editing and offer it to my subscribers. Thanks for the great idea. I have an index card file where I put all my 'newbie tip' ideas and then I write them later based on my experiences and research.
I couldn't have done it without my inspiration, a step by step guide especially for newbies (I don't know if I'm aloud to mention things like that here) and my marketing course which is a more detailed manual for making a legitimate, profitable business at home.
The later even analyzes your site for you.
Again, Viola I would love to help you, it's my calling. Let's get together and brainstorm, ok?
Sheree

That is such great advice sparkle.

I agree with Sparkle 110%!
I will only add one thing - I have been researching several opportunities and have found success only with those that were related to "what I already know". An elementary school teacher cannot expect to break the bank selling stock tips!
And don't be afraid to multi-task. There are many opportunities out there that require minimal involvement and/or start-up capital. Many are even free & you can succeed by utilizing your established contacts.

Sparkle,
I would be interested to know more about your 1/2 million dollar website. I noticed your sig links to FiendsWin. I looked it up on Alexa and it seems that site wasn't around last year. It was started at the end of July 07 and since they are giving the first month free. I figure your holding out on us. We are all friends here right. Come on tell us how you did it.
If it wasn't for all of those kids I might accuse you of being in porn. It's still the top industry on the internet.

I've been a SAHM for 4 years now and over the last 2 years i've been looking into all sorts of online businesses and even starting my own business. My husband and I realized that there is just not enough time for me to start a traditional business right now, but that wasn't good enough for me so i've continued looking for something to do from home and I have found the perfect thing for me. I know it's perfect for me because the business that I was going to try to do from scratch is here on the computer, only it's 100 times better plus all the money and legwork has already been done for me. Another bonus for me is that I don't even consider it work because I don't have to sell anything or really change anything that I already do. I know I know some of you are probably wondering what it is and some of you already know. All I do is shop online as I normally do and tell my friends about it. I just started about 1 week ago, oh yeah and it's totally free!!

I have been a wahm for the last 2 or so years and its been hard work but the rewards far outweigh the long hours. If anyone tells you that it is a doddle,a breeze being your own boss-don't listen to 'em! I have 2 boys who a big part of my doing this business. I want them to be financially secure. In this climate with jobs unsecure etc I decide to bit the bullet and strive out on my own. I am so glad I did. I have two businesses I am loving, one of which is relatively new but the other has provided me with a very good income not to mention the experience and knowledge I have gained. And I am not stopping there-I am now looking into my third chosen business that will complete my portfolio and take me higher. After 2 years I feel more empowered and confident, and it feels great providing a secure future for my family

I love working from home! My background is nursing and healthcare administration, and after a serious car accident in 2002 I simply couldn't do it any more. My daughter came along in 2005 and I was a stranded single mother on disability. NOT the way I wanted to bring up a child.
Just over a year later, very nearly multiple six figures. MORE importantly, I love the people that I choose to work with, love to set my own hours, love what I have the luxury of doing every day- LIVING!
I won't say its easy, or for everyone- but I will say it is simple. I learn, grow and remain consistent. I will NEVER go back to a world of wanting, lack and dispair.
I can't imagine how it feels to wean a 6 week old baby and leave it to a near stranger in daycare from 8-6pm daily- as so many families feel that they MUST. The reality, today- is that a second income for most families is NOT optional- its required, not to be wealthy, just to GET BY.
So, congratulations to those of you courageous enough to follow your heart and make the commitment and sacrifices to move forward and do what YOU feel is the best for your family. If you can dream it, you CAN acheive it.
It takes courage, it takes guts and it takes determination- but it is WORTH it at the end of the day! Nothing is more important then our children- and they will not be children forever.
I often wish that our North American culture valued family more- and supported and encouraged work at home parents and families with children under age 5 as so many European countries do. One day, our voices WILL be heard and we will see change. In the meantime, congratulations for opening a window where the door is closed!
Cheers
Jani

Thanks for the encouraging words. I am sure by staying focused with my new work it will definitely pay off. You know the late nights after the kids go to bed etc.. just to read up on things and trying to get ahead so you don't worry about it throughout the day while your time and energy is all for the family. Thanks again and great job matiasmommy on not being down from your accident and instead letting it empower you to become more independent and focused on providing stability in more than just financially for you and your daughter. I came from a home of just me and my mother and she struggled the entire time. It was so sad and I feel that it is so important to get ahead and stay there so that my family will never be in that situation. Your daughter will really respect you for that when she's old enough to realize what you did for the both of you. GOOD JOB!

Hi Brianne,
If you would like your shopping mall link to be clickable, just change your signature link code to this:
[url=http://www.mypowermall.com/Biz/Home/62089]Free Shopping Mall[/url
But, add ] to the end. I can't type that here or you will see the hyperlink instead of the code.
So, you paste the whole code in your sig, add the closing bracket ], and save the changes.
Let me know if you have any trouble.

How did you break into this field? Did you have to take some courses first to get certified? If so then how did you get into the field? I have heard a lot about this opportunity but heard it was hard to get into.

Medical or general transcription is great for wah moms. You can go to school for medical transcription, but general or even legal transcription can be done without any special training, as long as you have good English skills.
The hours are flexible and, with experience, it pays very well.
