I have been a PL member for a couple of weeks and have read through most of the course.(Brain Overload) I have not yet created a website or blog, but am on the verge to get this started. Any tips on which area is best to begin with as far as Adsense or Affiliate Marketing. This is a exciting program and I am willing to put as much effort in to this as I need. I will be honest though most of this is a foreign language to me. Any advice? Thanks

Hi there! I haven't used Profit Lance, but I am a member of Wealthy Affiliate and as far as I know they are pretty similar. I am also pretty new to IM (a little over 2 months now), so I'm not sure I'm the right person to take advice from, lol. But here's my input.
I personally think to start of with you are better to go with affiliate marketing. The reason is this. The main thing you need to focus on is making a blog or website and getting traffic to it. Getting traffic is the hard part. You need to do keyword research and target long tail keywords no matter if you are doing Adsense or affiliate marketing.
Since you are new, it can be hard getting lots of traffic (I know from experience). BUT....if you target the right keywords, you will get traffic, and results for affiliates show up faster than for adsense.
Here's an example (and I haven't made much with Adsense yet, so somebody else can chime in with better info). Let's say you make a blog that has Adsense on it. Now you do a good job and get 500 visitors to your blog. Some people click on the ads, but most don't. These stats are similar to mine, and I've made less than $.50 with 500 visitors.
NOW....let's say you make a blog with affiliate links in it...and the product commission is $20. Let's keep the same stats to make an easy comparison. If you target the same keyword and get 500 visitors to your page, and have decent sales copy, you should be able to get at least 50 of those people to click on your links. What if only one of those 50 people actually buys the product through your link? You still made 20 bucks!
I'm not very good at explaining, and maybe that was a bad example, but hopefully you get the idea. It will take a LOT of visitors to make your Adsense earnings add up to a decent amount. But with affiliate marketing, a single payout can be for a decent amount.
You can try either way, but I vote to start with affiliate marketing. Find a good product to promote with a decent commission. Then do some good keyword research. Then make your website or blog. Then get traffic through PPC or free methods.

That was a pretty good description fatman!  Don't sell yourself short. You are certainly getting the gist of things.
Personally, I do both. I know not everyone is going to come to one of my sites to buy. Most of them are just looking for some info. If they see something in an ad that catches their eye, at least I got something from the visit, rather than nothing.
However, if you are good at copywriting and you are just writing sales copy for a landing page, you really wouldn't want Adsense to 'distract' from the possible sale.
It all depends on what type of site you are aiming for.
I am building large websites that will rank well over time as they mature. I am constantly adding content. I don't have just a one or two page sales letter. For me, it makes sense to have a variety of different monetization models.
If you are thinking of building a full blown niche website like mine, I highly recommend you learn how to do it right with the proper research and SEO methods so that you aren't wasting your time. It isn't necessarily 'hard' but it is 'tricky' if you don't have any idea of what you are doing.
If you are going to put your time and effort into it, build a website that is going to draw free targeted traffic from the search engines rather than be a voice crying in the wilderness.

Another good point, happywife. I've heard lots of people in the IM business say "don't keep all your eggs in one basket." I think that is a good idea. You don't want to do ONLY one thing. Like you said, not everyone gets online just to buy something.
You can still profit if you keep these people in mind though. Make some great quality niche sites that will really help out your visitors. You can add some product links for the people that want to buy. But you can use Adsense to earn a little when nobody wants to buy anything.
I like to use a combination of these. Although I haven't been too successful with Adsense yet, I'm working on it. I usually make a fairly long landing page with a lot of helpful information. Then I add a section with some product reviews. At the very bottom of the page, and maybe a small subtle ad on the top or sides too, I put Adsense modules. For the people that want to buy something they have my links. But for the people looking for free info, they can still benefit from my site, and maybe I'll get a little bit from Adsense.
Using more than one strategy is good. But I agree that if you are going to focus on affiliate marketing you want to keep the Adsense minimal. After all, you want visitors to click on your links and not the ads. Hope this helps.

Fatman and Happywife have provided you with some good points,
I use both affiliate marketing and adsense, sometimes on the same website and sometimes i will use them individually.
Adsense can take a long time to build up a decent amount in your account, however if you have many sites all receiving some traffic then your adsense revenue can increase.
Although there is a chance to make larger sums of money with affiliate marketing, from personal experience there is a greater chance of someone clicking on an adsense ad than purchasing through your link, so it all depends on your sites content and purpose
I know i am rambling, i apologize for that, I personally have had more success with affiliate marketing however if you do go ahead with adsense read the "adsense plan", its a great resource in the blueprint area of the PL system.

I agree...
I always advise a lot of caution with AdSense websites nowadays - people are getting slapped left, right and center. It's like Google has taken up boxing.
I recommend to start with affiliate sites first and once you understand the whole game, then you start focusing on AdSense.

Thanks everyone for the replies they are very helpfull. My next qustion comes with generating traffic to my blog or website. I know I have been over this portion of the PL training and it seems to make sense but when I go to apply these tools I seem to go a stray. Any tips on a good starting point? Do I need to create an additional blog to my money wbsite or is that overkill? Thanks

Remember that with adsense your income depends on the amount of
traffic you have. The amount of traffic you get depends not only the
amount of content you have on your site but also the quality of the
content.
To really make adsense work, you need to make your site a place
where users will want to return to your site.
Targeted traffic is the key to online income.
The more the targeted traffic, the bigger the income!
