If you're talking about blogs in general I would suggest reading the archives on Probloggers blog (Darren Rowse) he knows how to monetize a blog and shares this information in his articles. He really is a Problogger.

foreverloco, To add to the last message if you go to ninjablogsetup, a guy named Jon, will set up your blog free if you use wordpress and the host he mentions on his site, (he gets paid by referral). He is a stand up guy and actually emails you back the same day, first with an autoresponder and then he sends one himself. He answers all your questions promptly. From what I've seen so far he's a great resource for newbies who know nothing, like myself.

I searched the archives and did not come up with Problogger. Are you talking about searching with Del.icio? I came up with Problogger there but I was not sure it was a posting from this site. I am new and still finding my way.

Yes, you can make money from these blogs. You can make money by putting google adsense on them, or including affiliate links. The thing about blogs is that you need to update them regularly in order for them to rank well in the search engines.
Make sure not to promote a ton of products on the same blog. Each blog should only be written for one product only. Make sure each one is keyword rich.

I make money blogging from adsense and affiliate links.
I also get a lot of freebies like magazine issues from some of the programs that I stumbled.
I like blogging. It is a good exercise of writing skills that rapidly diminish after you've left school. It also brings in a lot of opportunities from the interaction with other bloggers that follow.

Blogging is a great way to make money IF you know how to drive traffic to your blog.

Does anyone recommend using Adsense and affiliate links on the same blog? I am doing that on one of my niche sites, but I am just wondering if it's okay or overkill.

What ways do you recommend to drive traffic?

During the 30 Day Challenge Ed Dale teaches not to put the adsense in the blog until you've tested the product that your affiliate links go to. If for whatever reason your product or niche doesn't convert then he says to put in the adsense so that all your work on the blog isn't wasted. Then move on to another niche that hopefully will convert.
His thinking is that it gives them another link to click other than your affiliate link which should make you more money than the adsense link. It makes sense to me. I hope this helps. Sonni
