Adsense is short term income, affiliates are long term if you get the right ones

Regarding Adsense vs. affiliates, it depends on your niche, etc. Why not use both? You can experiment with only one type on a page and then the other and then both and see what is most profitable for your market.
Remember that every person who comes to your site is also going to leave it. They may or may not be interested in your affiliate recommendation. If you are also giving them options of Adsense ads, it is more likely they will click on one of those to leave your page rather than just closing the window. If you can get a little something from Adsense, it is better than nothing.
The other question - You are allowed 3 Google ad units per page. I believe you are also allowed a link unit, too. Double check in your adsense account. They make it fairly clear.

I think they both have a lot of potential. If you can find high paying keywords and you get a lot of traffic then that is really good potential. If you have a clickbank product for a popular product that is ranked high in the search engines, then the potential is there too. I can't really pick one or the other.

My affiliate website has the Google ads placed at the very bottom of the page. I would like to have them moved to a better position on the page, but for the last month or so I have been unable to contact them via email and phone. (Project X) is the affiliate
