I've been checking out sites for directory submission services. Does anyone have any recommendations and advice in general? Thanks.

I really haven't used them, but if you have found a few on Google, why not try them out and report back here how you did with them...

Yes that would be useful for the group. I am just trying to find a quality one at the right price. I've also asked Mike and am waiting to hear. Might take a while to realise the results, but I will post when I get a 'picuture'.

Google has been banning some directories recently, so check the directories before submitting

Thanks. The service I am looking at using only submits to search engine friendly sites. I am assuming this keeps it on the happy side of Google?

Google it. Then consider paying for Yahoo and Dmoz. I keep hearing over and over that it is well worth the price. I've had success with manual submissions. I feel that it is worth the time and effort.

When you say you've had success with manual submissions, the companies who do the submissions (the good ones at least) do it manually. Don't you find it terribly time consuming to do it yourself? How many are you talking about?

I never have a company submit for me. I go to each site and do it manually - myself.
Yes it is time consumming. It takes several hours. It isn't for everyone. I'm the kind of person who likes to know a lot about every detail of my business and I like to do it all myself.

Like I said, just Google it and you will have more than you can handle in a week. Type in phrases such as "directory", "search engines", "meta search engines", and so on. That will give you plenty of enlightenment:)

Here are the ones I've used:
inetzeal - highly recommended
directory maximizer- highly recommended
add 2 directory- stay away from them!

I would have to agree with Newbie Shield. I have always manually submitted to directories myself. It is a bit of a pain, but I put up with it for 2 reasons.
1. I'm too cheap to pay someone for what I can do myself. 
2. I don't want to take the chance that I will get submissions to a bunch of junk directories that hurt me more than help me. Too, I've heard that those that do submissions don't always put you in the right category.
I may turn to this method eventually if I can find a service that is highly recommended by my colleagues. I'll let someone else do the trial and error.

Actually Directory Maximizer was on my short list. I hope I haven't made a mistake in going with: submitcomfort.
I would have probably gone with Directory Maximizer, if I'd stopped off and checked this forum again. Another lesson learned. A-ways I made a relatively modest investment 500 submissions to start with, and I can let you all know how well this company performs for me.

With directory maximizer you have the option of doing a delayed submission. Make sure you do a delayed submission. You don't want to have your site submitted to all 500 in one week. Its best to submit your site gradually rather than a short period of time.

Yes, what I've done is submit 50 a day. Do you think this is a good number or still too much? Mikes gave this number in his blue print.

For the last few weeks, I have been submitting my sites to SE's through WebCEO which is free. It allows you to add your site, plus it will automatically generate keywords and phrases for you. Then you can manually or have WebCEO submit to SE's you select.
Some of what you get for free with the manual submissions is Google, Yahoo, and Droz which allows to select the catagory your site falls under.
The automatic submissions does not include any of the above SE's.
But you can select which SE's you want your site submitted to.
I choose English only SE's. It will then submit you site to those SE's which can be close to if not over a hundred.
Within a few minutes of submission, I recieve emails from not all but some of the SE's requesting email confirmation.
My question to you Newbie Shield is,
If my site has already been automatically submitted to those SE's, should I try to go back and resubmit them manually? or is what's done is done. By the way, I do thing paying to have your site submitted is a total waste of money in my opinion.

It might be duckbird. But I am going along with Mike's suggestion and giving it a try. Besides if it turns out to work for me, I can pass the info. on here. Still in test.

The only difference is what you're going to be paying for, I'm getting for free. By the way, Mike also suggests WebCEO.

No, don't submit to a site more than once. Give it time to show up - one or two months.
The reason I do it manually is to ensure that it gets put in the proper category. Additionally, some sites don't "like" auto-submissions.
An alternative plan might be to identify the major directories. Manually submit to those. Then you might auto-submit to some of the smaller directories.

Are you talking about manual submissions? I know that there are lots of free automated or semi-automated submission options. However those get flagged and rejected from what I've been reading.

i used directory maximizer. Great little tool.
I have a question, if I have already submitted using directory maximizer (paid service) can I use another service like inetzeal to submit? What if they go to the same directories as the 1st company??
Any ideas?
