It seems you have to a million and one things to be remotely successful in this business and if you skip just one, you will not be successful. Ok maybe not a million and one. More like 999,000,000

I think the first thing to do is find a product or service that you can get excited about. If your just selling a marketing program that is marketing the marketing program then I think you'll probably have trouble and end up wishing you had you money back.
If someone has a good product to offer then they will give you plenty of marketing resources free because they want to help you sell the product.
The internet has always attracted people with the idea getting something free. I find that if I look hard enough I can often find great things FREEEEEEE!!!!!

Yes, there are a milllion things to know quite well, all joking aside. Furthermore, few here ever discuss things beyond marketing tactics. There is the planning, taxes, entity structure, accounting, careful tracking, and more.
You understand it and set it all up before launching your site and before applying marketing strategies if you want long term sustainence and growth. Few if any seem to consider that important enough to discuss.
It takes time and expertise. It also takes more money than people seem to think.
It's fun to research and learn these things so why not do it? Keep your daytime job in the mean time. I'd also recommend diversifying your risks. Plan more than one type of website. How about three or four? Put a lot of work into each site before you launch it.
Make over a dozen excellent pages before even launching it. Personally, I create over 100 pages before launch because I value my visitors. I want them to get a great experience from their first visit. But that's just me!
Good luck, Duck! Newbie Shield How it's really done.
