This is a question I get often. I schedule my family time first and I keep my schedule open so I can be available to my team and prospects when they call.
8AM - 9AM I get up, check email and get the day rolling. I don't do a full breakfast, so a nutritional shake takes the place.
11AM I get on the Mon-Thurs Training call.
2PM I schedule a live dial call with my team, calling their leads and doing follow up calls for them.
I take personal time from 3-5.
6PM is dinner time
7PM I do a live dial training with my team
8PM Official Coastal Trainings Mon-Thur.
9PM Attend and participate in the official Q and A call
10PM take calls from people calling me about getting started with Coastal.
Retire to bed around 11 or Midnight.
I take Friday - Sunday off from my training schedule, but keep myself available for my team. I do enjoy reading, so I invest frequently in books

Wow....It's been about 24 hours and I can't believe that no one person is willing to share what their work day looks like.
It took me almost 3 years to find out how successful Coastal Directors spend their day and was one of the most valuable pieces of information.
Well.....let's hope some else will share how they work their day.

Jay - You did not ask for others to share what their typical day was like - so hence the no response?
I would like to hear what people's schedule is that also have a full time job - I'm sure not everyone in here is full time.
What time commitment does it take for someone who is doing this on a PT basis?

Great question Bob,
This business is about lifestyle. Is about using the systems and tools we have to the best of our ability. Lets say you are a full time employee and work in the day. Then a system like Contact Talk ( I dont use it but have heard alot about it) might be good to use. It can call leads for you in the day and direct prospects to your website where they get the info. The message can also give the prospect the live conference call to attend. After the call you can have some time set aside to call them back (based on time zones of course). In this scenario you used the system to do the work. Think of your Coastal business as a major corporation and think of how they run and mirror it.
This is just one idea Bob and alot depends on your specific situation. Im not sure if you have a director or not but that is definitely a discussion for you guys to have. If you dont have one im open for the discussion.

Bob,
I work a fulltime job and work Coastal. I am fortunate enough to have a job that allows me internet access and the freedom to use my cell phone as long as my work gets done. I work about 1 to 2 hours a night after the kids go to bed also. I have a 9yr, 6yr, and 15 month old so evenings are wild at my house until they go to bed.

9 AM - Wake up, shower, shave, flex in front of mirror, etc.
9.30 AM - Sit down at PC, check e-mail
10.30 AM - BREAKFAST YUMMMY DELICIOUS
11 AM - Start days work (organized the previous day)
1.30 PM - LUNCH YUMMY DELICIOUS
4.30 - Should be done work by now. If not, keep going...
6.30 - Finish work whether I'm done or not. Organize work load for the next day.

Hiya
well I don't really have a schedule, except I don't work on Sundays and half days Fridays and Saturdays. As you can see it's 11.39 and I am responding to this...
However my busiest day is Monday (15 hr day) , then Tuesday and it decreases usually from there.
I think that is the beauty of Coastal. If I have to attend a concert I can. My 2 brothers are visiting from the UK next week and I can still run my business and have fun at the same time.

Thanks Maria for sharing your schedule.
You know, you'd think there'd be more here who would be willing to share their schedule......
I remember the first time I could ask a successful director about their schedule. It really helped me get my day together.
I was in a training call a while back and it was about setting up your schedule. The idea was to set up your week on Friday....well, I'm sure it worked for some, but for me....I hated it. I like to keep an open schedule to be available for my team and prospects.
I watched as some who were learning things like DNDR. This was a term used by a director when someone called or sent an instant message and it stands for Does Not Deserve a Reply. I could not believe anyone would do this....but there are some who just don't understand what training and support are.
These same directors were teaching to set a schedule for everything....which is fine if it's working for you, but for me....I like to keep an open, loose schedule.
I'd like to encourage everyone to share what works for your schedule. This can be a great threat, but we do need more people to share.

Hi everyone!
I just dropped by to say hello and I thought I would share what I do!
I dont really have a set schedule. The schedule I do have is more around my family than it is around my business and I try to organize myself the night before. I work while the kids are at school and then again in the evening when they are in bed.
I do make dials every day, during the day and then again in the evening. I also get on a lot of training calls. I take Saturday's off and I am ALWAYS available for my team.
I would say Tuesday's are my busiest day...

yes...life it tough...actually my 15 yr old is a musician, so my coastal schedule is around his lessons 3x per week...and yes plenty of concerts (which of course I love)....proud mum.
If I was still working as a physical therapist, I would have definitely missed out on many concerts, sitting in on lessons, helping with homework and so much more.
Working from home with coastal is a lifestyle

I generally try to stick with a 10-2 M-F schedule. I need to keep my evenings open because, like Maria, I have two musicians in the family who are always heading to some lesson or performance.
I am working on developing my time management skills so that I can take Fridays off - and feel good about it - but I am not quite there yet.
(I make myself available for my teammates pretty much anytime...)

It is important to take time off...otherwise you would go nuts and stressed out. But being supportive and there for your group at any time is what every good leader should be like....there are truly a lot of exceptional and giving leaders in coastal, who are available to help anyone in any group.

Yes Maria, you are so great. The lessons I have learned from you and others will work great for me when I put the time in. I was doing my full-time job and then on the computer from 9:30-1 for the first few months but all that did was give me burnout. After our Florida holiday I realized that there is no time limit and when I can work on the business I do and now I try to go to bed before midnight every weeknight which gives me more energy.
I also try to get to the gym 2-3 times a week which is beneficial for me. My 6 yr old had a freak out on me about 3 weeks ago when she complained about me being on the phone or the computer every available second and not available for cuddle or one-on-one time anymore. That really hit me and I do try to schedule my time better and only be busy after she is asleep or occupied doing something creative.
Thanks for sharing everybody. I have had a lot of support from this forum and am blessed to have found it and have found Coastal as it is the vehicle which is going to take me far in life (including to exotic places).

Maria, viola is wonderful. How long has he been playing?
My kids are rather young (11 and 13) and still experimenting with their music.
They both play handbells at church and piano. My 13 yr old is a percussionist - that is his passion. He plays at school and with a community percussion ensemble. My 11 yr old plays flute in band but I think she is heading in the direction of Vocal music. She is in the school choir, church choir, Youth Honors Choir (community group) and a vocal jazz ensemble.
We constantly have some sort of rehearsal or lesson to run to. Tonight we're off to choir practice and handbell practice.
I love sports but I am glad neither of my kids are athletes at this point because it seems that is even more time consuming than music!

you must be so proud of your 2. Vocals and percussion are both wonderful talents to have.
Music is wonderful, I am glad my son did not take up football (we're in TX, they all play football here).
My son started playing at school as a 6th grader, so he has been playing 4yrs. He plays with the gdyo dot org Philharmonic orchestra and of course at school.
I am sure you are like me, everytime he wants to play games (he loves basketball) at the gym I tell him to be careful with his (viola) hands.
Anyway, it takes time to take kids to rehearsals and to functions (you have 2 of them...so you are even busier) when I was working 60 hrs per week as a PT there would have been no way I could have managed home, practices, food and work...
If anyone is reading this and thinking about coastal, putting the income aside, the time freedom and improved lifestyle is what having a home business can give you.

Well I figured I'd chime in. This is a great topic. My schedule is weird. There are certain times I set aside for work such as the live calls and training calls in the day. Even though I set these times aside for work I spend the time on the calls multi-tasking. I might call prospects while im on the call( during presentations as I hate missing the testimonies) as well as post in the forum or send emails or even just talk via instant messenger to my teammates. Technology has made this business great. IM and email are my best friends next to my website. Im not as active in daily calls right now but as the summer comes to an end I will be right back in stride. When im making calls I make calls them in the morning as well as some at night. The times vary according to who im calling (east coast vs. west coast).
Training teammates varies based on their needs. This may not get me a bunch of friends in here but im not one for all of the extra forums and training calls done by so many directors for their teams. I believe that this is a business you can duplicate easy and there are more than enough calls and tools for a teammate to learn from, done by incredible trainers. Now of course I spend alot of targeted personal time with a new person accessing their skills and directing them to where to learn but I don't hold their hands. I also conduct special trainings as needed.
What I love about Coastal is the flexibility. It works for anyone's schedule. Look at how many have shown how flexible it is. I even love my system does much of the work for me. I can direct someone to my website, to a live or recorded call and they will have enough info to even get started on their own. What a business.
Hey btw I turned 40 yesterday and if you guys look at my profile you will see that I don't look a day over say 33. I think I even stopped aging when I got in Coastal because of the so little stress.

Now, I ask my team members to email me and I respond back to them with a phone call.

I had a hard time at first , figuring out how to do this because of the mentality that you have to be constantly working in order to make money!
My schedule is around my family but I still have certain hours that I am usually dialing..
I am in MST so I can start dialing at 7am
7am - 8am dail fresh morning leads and check emails,respond,etc..
Then from 10am - 11am I am usually dialing and doing follow ups
11am , I am usually on a q&a call
And again from about 2pm - 5pm I am on the phone - however , with 4 kids still at home I have a lot of interuptions!So I am not dailing straight for 3 hours!!
In the evenings I am usually finishing up dials and follow ups and getting on whatever training calls there are available..
The reason I am doing this is so that I can be at home with the family so my schedule is not always the same but that gives you an idea!

Hey guys thanks for the replies. Any of you that want to have me on IM can do so by looking at the email address in my profile. Thats my MSN messenger. I love IM. I do have a bunch of teammates as well but they love the fact I am accessible even if its to just say hey im in the midst of doing something and ill get back to you. I love email but I dont know about you all but from time to time you might not check it in a few hours and a teammate might have what they perceive as an emergency andget frantic. I find it great leadership that I can get back to them asap via IM. Plus I spend most of my work day on the computer anyway so heck im already here. In my opinion it gives me more flexibility. I even have it on my cell phone so even away from the computer im ready for business.
I guess if you train you teammates in how to do things and share your knowledge on everything they have the tools to succeed. I train all my team that way as well as giving them my expections of them and the best resources to handle issues and most importantly I express the best way to contact me. It's been working for me great. Just what works for me. Everyone should find their own system and work it.

Happy belated birthday Adam-I've still got another 3 yrs to go and if you look at my profile I bet you'd think I was only 25 (LOL) More people should put their pictures on their profiles -I'd love to see what you all look like.
I think you are working too hard always being available on cell and computer -what does your wife think? I know you are in the business together from your website so what part of your workload to you let her accomplish?
I don't know if you do this but make sure your teammates only contact you certain hours of the day so you can actually peel your eyes away from these machines and relax. I'm sure they will understand and if it is really important they can always call you. How do you take all your great vacations if you are always available?
I actually called Jay last week and his voicemail said it was full so 1) I realized maybe he is too busy to talk to me (as I am not one of his team) and 2)-he does have a life other than Coastal (he was actually at the conference)
It is great to make Coastal your full-time life but make time for other things as well -today's society is so full of gadgets to stay in tough with each other we forget about staying in touch with ourselves.

Thanks for the reply. My wife is my best consultant. She is a travel guru. As a matter of fact when I met her she was planning a cruise for her friends. She also does alot of the prospecting as her background was in bank collections (she won employee of the year 4 of the 6 years she was at her company) so calling people to offer vacations is a piece of cake. She also told me that her goal in life was to be able to just dress and rest if she wanted. Well ive helped her achieve that dream.
I do have specific hours for teammates to contact me and most of the time ( I do forget from time to time) I put my status to away if I dont want to be bothered as im busy. Its funny I am a bit of a workaholic but I love to write so this is labor of love. Many new prospects come here to look at Coastal. I know of a 7 figure earner in Coastal that post here that has probably made 6 figures of that income from this forum itself. With numbers like that it good to be here. In addition the learning to be gained here is priceless. I have learned about web design, marketing, advertising, prospecting as wel as product knowledge from the Work at Home Forum.
The best thing ive learned is how to network. Never have I met a more dynamic set of people. It is sure like a family as well with all of the conflicts we seem to have as well.

Hi Judy,
I'm never too busy to talk. I'll bet you called me on a day when I had alot of calls to my COA Network Toll Free Number. I get calls from the toll free number letting me know that I have a message....and when this happens, it leaves a message on my voicemail.
I balance my time with things I enjoy. This week I'll begin taking golfing lessons again...don't know that they'll help, but it sure is fun. I find that it's easy to put in hours and hours of time into the business when you don't have a focus. I focus my time and energy so I can quickly and easily get the results I'm looking for.

Have fun golfing. My hobby is scrapbooking -a lot less calories burned but I still enjoy it.

Ahh..Yes, my wife scrapbooks as well. Several years ago I tried to get her to go with me to the Atlanta Gift Show, which is a wholesale show for buyers for gift shops and the like. It was HUGE!! And one of the areas was scrapbooking. There sure are some great creative people doing it.

Each day changes quite a bit for me but there are constants:
1. Exercise and inspirational reading first thing
2. Write one article per day
3. Write one press release on my business per day
4. Spend time talking to friends in forums
5. Write one blog post per day
Other than those 5 constants I enjoy the freedom to spend the rest of my day as I wish. Or, do I get to do what I like BECAUSE of those 5 constants? Hmmm . . . Sort of a "chicken and egg" quandry
