Hi Everyone: The tourism season starts for our little town next month, May, 2007. We get around 250,000 visitors every year. On some days, we get as many as 6,000 visitors.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to market to those visitors? Mainly, I would like to retail the travel packages to them. To me, it seems like all those visitors are ideal prospects for retail. After they have reached shore from the cruise ship, they have traveled here many thousands of miles, from across the U.S., Canada, and around the World.
My town is Sitka, Alaska, USA: http://sitka.org/

Do they have any billboards close to the docks? If you have friends with restaurants or giftshops or any kind of retail outlet that you could put flyers in that say how much you can save on cruises and things like that would be great.

If I were you I would post flyers and also buy those little holders for business cards, and ask around town in stores and shops if you can place them by the cash register. People will pick them up as they check out.

Hey Robert, There must be a pile of tourists who visit the tourist office to find out what to do in Sitka? As Shelby suggests, if you have some flyers printed out you could leave it there as a one stop shop....even have those flyers ready as the people come off the ship if you're able to be there.
We did a trade show pretty early in my Coastal career for business owners, it was more of a meet and greet than anything but the point is you must try different things to see what works. You should always keep in mind where the people are going to be and then be there.

Become friends of the shore excursion teams, who take people out to glaciers, boat and whale watching trips.
Ask them if you can add value to their trips, by putting a one page flyer in their literature, and tell the owners that you'll pay them a fee to insert so many flyers in their lit.
Might be more harder than it seems on "paper" but another idea would be to do your OWN excursion, create a really cool event, for 100's of people to come to, and at the end you can "market" to them your warez.

PS - I Love Sitka.... I hear there are surfers there.

Hi Robert,
My mom, and family will be one of your visitors in June....I would suggest talking to some of the "On Shore Excursion" people about being able to put up flyers/business cards! They are like hiking, rafting and that sort of thing....people can book them when they go on there cruise, and at Celebrity she told me that 80% of people on the cruise take an "on Shore Excursion"
