As I undrestand it a lot of people took the magic genie who grants you all your wishes in "The Secret" literally I guess and are now disallusioned.
We talked about positive thinking and motivational books etc but I believe the "Secret" was more this: Visualize the end result however take action to help make the visualization a reality.
SO if I visualize selling a dozen packages and advertise, market thru websites, emails, calls etc the visuaization should manifest.
How many of you will credit visualization along with action in success with Coastal?
And how many think that the magic genie in The Secret movie was over the top?
Thoughts and comments please.

Hello Terri
have you made a vision board?
I personally also found the steps in science of getting rich more helpful than "the secret" DVD
as I needed step by step instructions which the book gives.
If you have not read it you can get it from my blog
also the book, "the richest man in Babylon" is a must read.
gratitude, visualization and action
Grateful to have you as a friend
Cheers maria Porter

As I've read somewhere, vision without action is just a dream. It would be nice if great things could happen by just visualizing but that's not reality, at least not in my world.

I can't remember is this was in the movie or in the interview with Oprah, but they were saying that you have to visualize what you want and work toward making it happen. If you sit back and don't do anything to make it happen, it most likely won't happen. You also have to truly believe in your vision and work at keeping your thoughts on what you want and not what you don't want. Basically you attract what you think about and put out.

I think there are certain types of personalities that will benefit from movies and books like the Secret. But, there are also some that won't. Each of us has our own certain motivators. For some it's fear, for others it's desire of comfort for our families. It could be anything but I know that my bad habits are still my bad habits and I am trying to change them but they still hold me back. Here are a couple of things I would like to change about myself. I wish I wasn't a procrastinator. I have been "trying" to start on retail sales with Coastal for a while now but I let myself get caught up in everything else in my life that it never gets done. Also, I like to try to do some advertising for my new members when I have time. I haven't had time in the last few weeks and it really bothers me that I haven't done that. I want all of my new Coastal members to be happy and productive and I am dedicated to making sure that happens as long as they are as dedicated as I am and so putting some ads on the web is one way I can help but lately I have been totally consumed with other things so I want to get to the point that I can get back to doing that for them.

Have any of you read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napolean Hill? Quite frankly, I think "The Secret" is pretty much a ripoff of this book that was first published in 1937. I give them a lot of credit for an incredible marketing campaign but I just can't take it seriously since it is so similiar to the 1937 publication. Granted, the 1937 book is politically incorrect in a number of ways. Perhaps the marketers saw a new spin on an old subject. But I could not help but see the similarities. I totally agree with the concept, but the new campaign seemed a bit too much like a publicity thing. I mean, how much would you pay for this whole "secret"?? I mean, come on, it is no secret. It has been around for some time now. But, again, nothing against the messenger - just get it and live it!! Whatever it takes.

If something isn't working then try something else. BUT, don't forget about what you are doing right then because it might be that you are just learning about that method and you will get better with experience. I'm talking about advertising methods by the way. Just don't give up. That is the real secret.

Hello
actually "the secret" was based on the book by Wallace Wattles titled "the science of getting rich"
Personally I found that the steps in the book were easier to follow than the DVD, as there was no clear 1,2,3 guideline on the DVD
If you have never read the book, I think it's fantastic. You can find a link for a free download on my website (under free ebooks).
I read alot, sometimes too much I think....but then I have also learned a lot, which is priceless.
My advice is to to one thing well, then add another marketing technique to your repetoir etc.
hope this helps maria porter

And "The Science of Getting Rich" and "Think and Grow Rich" were more or less based on an earlier work (as far as I know, but I could be wrong, so don't quote me) by Charles F. Haanel called "The Master Key System".
This is the book that is rumored to have changed Bill Gates from Harvard student to the current billionaire. According to it, he read it and then decided to realize his dream of a computer on every desk and dropped out of Harvard despite other's objections. And we all know what happened after that.
This was the book that was actually banned by the Church in 1933. I think they might have meant this book when they were talking about the Church banning the "Secret" in the Secret movie.

I found this article, from: Mike Martinez and I think this is where it all stems from... in my opinion...
Thousands of emails poured into Oprah Winfrey's website after the February 8th show featuring "The Secret" and the law of attraction. Many wondered whether it was right for a person to use the law of attraction to direct their lives. Many Christians asked if it was a sin to use this law. The law of attraction and the bible
The bible is accepted by many to be an inspired collection of historical facts connecting man and God. Throughout the bible, in both the old and new testaments, the law of attraction can be clearly seen in action.
Before we look closer into biblical examples, lets refresh our minds as to what the law of attraction is. This universal law states that like attracts like. On a deeper level it proves that everything in the universe is energy. Since thought is a form of energy, anything you focus on with strong emotional intent, feelings and concentration, you eventually bring into your existence. Like attracts like.
Therefore if you focus or energize your thoughts with pictures of poverty and lack, that is what you attract. If you concentrate your thoughts on health and wellbeing, by the law of attraction you must bring into existence health and wellbeing.
Genesis
The book of Genesis tells a great story that proves the law of attraction. Joseph was a young farm boy when he got a dream of being a great King. Of all of Jacobs kids, Joseph was the least likely to become King.
He was the youngest of the family. He had no leadership skills. Even his father and brothers couldn't see Joseph being a King.
But none of that made a shred of difference because Joseph held the thought of becoming a great leader in his mind so persistently it eventually came to be. Although he suffered numerous setbacks, he held firm to his belief, he held onto that dream until he became the great leader he saw in his mind.
That is the law of attraction in action.
The law of attraction doesn't only work on bring us good. Anything we give our energized thoughts to, and by energized we are specifically meaning emotionalized thoughts, thoughts mixed with strong emotions like excitement, love, fear, anxiety, these will super-charge thought energy and set the law of attraction in motion.
A clear example of this can be seen in Job 3:25 when he said, "Because a dreadful thing I have dreaded, it has come upon me. And what I have been scared of comes to me."
A Christian view
Christianity is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. In one of his famous sermons Jesus directed his followers to ask for what they want with the faith and belief that they already had it. In fact he said anything that you ask for in a spirit of faith and belief you would get.
Again, this is the law of attraction in action.
A double edge sword
Like the law of electricity, the law of attraction is a double edge sword. It can be used for success or failure. Electricity can light up a city and provide much needed energy, or it can snuff out life. Everything is dependent on how we conform to it's principles of use.
Did God design electricity? Did he put it in place for our use? Can it be used for a good outcome or a bad one? Yes, Yes and Yes! Gravity is a natural law. Yet if you don't use it as it was intended you could fall off a building or a cliff to a disastrous end. However God's intent was for it to serve us. So it is with the law of attraction.
It's interesting to see nature at work. When a seed is placed in the soil it doesn't contain everything it needs to grow and flourish. But by the law of attraction it draws to itself water, minerals and all else it needs to blossom. This is the wonder and beauty of this amazing law.
We as humans have a great ability no other life on earth has. The ability to think. A mind with free will. Yet another gift of God.
You have the power to design your life and the free will to design it as you wish. Just as God intended. What we must all realize is that the law of attraction will not cease to exist simply because we do not believe in it, or we refuse to utilize it. It has always been there and will always be.
Our only intelligent option is to begin applying it for our growth and betterment. Why not use the law of attraction to be a better Christian? Why not tap into this powerful law of nature to praise it's creator? This truly is the only intelligent option.

Hmmm from a Christian perspective I found the article interesting and "food for thought".
In Mark we do read : For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. ~Mark 11:23
Those are POWERFUL words. And one of my favorite passages.

It is important to research the scripture to understand what is being said as well. When Jesus refers to the moutain, he is actually refering to the Roman empire which the Jews viewed as their moutain in that day.

WOW! Really? I would never occur to me that people might take that literally!
This is a great thread! In regards to the LoA and christianity- my feeling is that application of the LoA is not only well within the bounds of the Christian faith, and as pointed out- refered to in the Bible but that it is in fact our DUTY as faithful Christians to not only use it to attract more of what is GOOD into the world but that it (abundance) is also our birthright and that it is God's will that we use the awesome power of our minds to attract abundance and prosperity. For me- my lifes motivation is not directly or merely self serving. I am acutely aware, for example- that by bringing good things into my life I am affecting- often directly- the quality of lives of those around me positively not to mention the rather more esoteric idea of the world at large.
To me, the ultimate message and teaching of Jesus Christ was always and only ever about one thing: Love. Love- or lack thereof- encompases everything I can think of in the manifested physical and emotional worlds.
I know that some Christians believe that poverty is somehow more "holy" then supporting, having or even wanting richness and abundance. I would suggest though, that poverty in the literal sense is not in fact what is required- to me- bringing forth suffering and misery to somehow be "closer to God" is NOT a loving action, or positive, faithful emotion/action. I don't belive in "hiding" behind visible, external factors and then somehow pointing "ego fingers" (consciously or not) and being more God-Loving then the "rich" man next door.
What I DO know, is that it is what is truly within my heart that is seen, known, evidenced and the most powerful driving force in the tactile world. I pray for guidance, that love- for not only what I know and understand, but that which I don't- will guide my heart always and ultimately. It is my soul that makes me a unique and powerful human being- and that can not be hidden from God nor taken from me by anyone or anything- regardless of my physical, external situation.
Come what may, if I manifest for love- I bring more of it into the world.
One of my favourites- through thick and thin has always been
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen
Hebrews 11-1
Most importantly everyone- have FUN manifesting what you already have and already ARE!

VERY neat, Terri! Thanks for pointing that out! I looked at the site- where do you get it in audiobook format?
I'm a techno-phobe.. no IPOD yet, just recently aquired a TV and dvd player for "the secret". I've never watched tv in over 10 years!
Another one I love is "Busting loose from the Money Game". Totally changed my life!
Cheers

I just finished listening to the secret audio book and started listening all over again when I was done! I have to go and buy the dvd as well! I never realized it before, but I was focusing on the things I didnt want instead of the things I did! I couldn't even tell you how that changed my mood when I began focusing on the good and visualizing what I wanted and the things I could have! The most important thing I took away from the book, though, was expressing gratitude for not only the things you have but the things you want and don't have! That is life changing in itself! Terri, I am going to have to get that book you were talking about as well; I checked out the site and it looks great!
To everyone's success!

Jani is right about Busting Loose from the Money Game it is an absolutely phenomenal book and takes up where "The Secret" DVD leaves off - I highly recommend it!
I am also in the middle of The Divine Matrix by Gregg Braden, which partners well with both of the above resources. He addresses the scientific background that supports the LofA but also discusses the power of compassion and love as the underlying forces that truly make the universe shift!
