Despite what many Paid Survey sites say I don't think this is something that would be particulalrly profitable for people outside the US. I've just joined a Paid Survey site (I won't say which yet, I'm going to try a bit longer and hopefully it won't be as bad as it seems). They have a large list of survey/research companies that you need to register with in order to do surveys (you know all of this already, I'm sure).
Despite their statements that anyone, in any country can do it, well, out of the last 20 sites on their list that I've tried to join I've only been able to join 3 of them. I couldn't sign up with the rest because I'M NOT FROM THE US OR CANADA. It seems the opinions of the rest of the world aren't as important. That's fair enough if companies are targeting the US population. Oh and also the links to survey companies have been repeated here and there in order for the list to seem larger.
In the FAQ's of the site it is asked if you can join if you don't live in the US. The answer went something like..."You may live in the United States, UK, Canada, and across the world..." and of course, that's true. However what the site fails to tell you is IF YOU DON'T LIVE IN THE US OR CANADA THE LIST OF SURVEY COMPANIES YOU CAN JOIN IS WAAAY SMALLER and quite honestly, not worth the $50 or so you'll have to pay to see the measly list.
Very misleading and not particularly ethical. Boy, do I feel like a right idiot for trusting these people to give me all the information I needed to make a decision that was right for me and my circumstances.
So beware, resident of "other" countries, you may not get what you paid for.

Hi,
Do not pay any one to join paid surveys. Why you pay $50 for a list? All legit and paying survey companies are free to join. I am a member of several paid surveys that paid me.
Never pay anyone to join Paid Surveys

Thanks for answering and yes I agree with you! My post was for newbies out there who will hopefully find this forum before the shysters out there find them.
It was a good lesson for me to learn. Why pay money for a list that I could find myself? I won't be making the same mistake twice.

If you paid the list by Paypal and within certain days, you might be able to get your money back.
I agree it's not worth the $50 since there are many free and good lists out there.

I see paid surveys as a way to make money and stay at home to do it. You will never make as much money as starting and running a home business with products to sell that pay a good commission.
However, I do think if a person takes the time to approach taking surveys as a business they would do much better. By that I mean develop your own data base of companies and target the ones that pay the best on a consistent basis.
I have seen enough now from various people online that you can make money and you can even earn several hundred dollars a month, but you have to work at it and be smart in how you keep yourself busy doing it.

Many sites which sell a list can be misleading when it comes to this. You should always be aware that you will qualify for less surveys than those which live in the US.

I don't know if you notice but you are saying 2 things and not the same.
1- Don't pay to join surveys [ I agree ] 2- Then you ask why he pays for a list. Well I think its a good idea to pay for a list if you don't have the time to do the research and want to avoid getting your inbox filled with spam.

Josie,
You definitely have a valid complaint that many people in the US find frustrating. That being that many of those companies charge an upfront fee for access to a list. However, most people do not know that they can find these survey companies free of charge.
Have you tried doing a chargeback? You may still have time to contact your bank or credit card company if you are dissatisfied.
Good luck with that. However do not give up on your goal of making money online. That goal is very much possible.

I'd say that 95% of paid surveys sites are a waste of time for most people - its sad that paid surveys are being so heavily promoted as a way to earn income.

It's not a bad way to earn a part time income getagrip, especially for people who don't really have the means to work outside of the home. An extra $50-$200 per month might not seem like a lot to some, but to others its a great deal!

I don't know exactly what you are referring to when you say "paid survey site". But if you mean a site which pays you to take surveys, then 100% of paid survey sites are not a waist of time.
You wont get rich by taking paid surveys but you can make money that way. Face it many people could use the extra money in today's economy.

Absolutely. As I tell people, I spend about 30-45 minutes a day doing surveys, going through survey emails, etc.
And I easily make $600 or so a month doing that. To me, that isn't a waste of time. Pays for the gas and the groceries. And to me, that's a good thing

Hello all my first post and the site seems very interesting - lots of lively discussions.
I am surprised at how many people seem to pay for lists of survey sites that pay. I have done a lot of research and have a growing list of free to join sites that pay. Some a lot some a little.
Happygal you really must have found some good sites. I must say i would find it difficult to make what you do for the time you spend. I make decent money but i must say i do spend a bit more time than that each day when i average it out over a week. Looking forward to contributing.

Hi All
Am new to this forum and to working online. Wish I had read this before buying a list of paid survey companies . We are volunteering in a developing country at the moment and are looking for ways to supplement income, so we turned to paid surveys. Our experience was exactly as described in the initial post - so many surveys were not availale to us as we are outside the US/Canada. We have unsuccessfully requetsed a refund. And, I am very disappointed to report that a 'watch dog' site that we used has been no help at all in recouping the outlay.
Anway - am glad to have stumbled across all of you and hopefully will avoid further unnecessary pitfalls. Will do my best to pass it forward.
