OR, if you know of other real typing programs, I'd be interested in that, too.

If you have to pay money. Yes it's a scam.

Well, I sent an email asking if I had to pay, and the return email said I didn't, BUT when I wrote back and asked if I had to make my own website, they've not gotten back to me. Hmm.

Avoid typing jobs where you pay a joining fee.

I worked for IRA for a few months the end of last year through January. They are not a typing job. They pay people to write articles and ebooks, etc. Occasionally there are other jobs, like I re-wrote auction descriptions in one job there. They do pay but it's not great money. Usually $35 for 10 articles of around 500 words. You choose which project you want to do of what is available.
I didn't have a problem working for them until my son was hospitalized and I had to back out of a job. They basically fired me but said I could re-apply when my life settled down IF they had an opening. Maybe I was being sensitive because of everything going on but the email seemed very curt and abrupt. I felt given the situation I was going through that they could have been more understanding.
I can see their side of things, though, because there were a lot of deadlines being missed at the time with some fairly lame excuses. Like I said, the money isn't wonderful but they do pay.

I just realized that I didn't answer all of your questions. You do not need your own website as if you are hired, you will be given access to their private job board where you can take on projects and post the finished product.
The job consists of writing so you will need to provide a sample in order for them to consider you. They asked me to write a paragraph or two based on a certain keyword to evaluate my writing skills as well as test my knowledge of keyword density and usage.
There is no fee involved with IRA and they pay via paypal. There may be other payment options but since I use paypal, I didn't look further into this.
