I recently did a small research with rip-off to see what it's all about as you hear people mention things like - go see what rip-off says about a company,etc...
Here is what I found - almost every business is listed somewhere on rip-off.. even like Tupperware, which we would all agree is not a scam opportunity!
The other thing I noticed was that in a lot of instances it was a place for people to vent their frustration with their business because it did not produce what was promised - or what they thought they were getting...
Now, get me right - I know there are scams out there. I have been 'took' by several, but that was MY fault. I shoulda done more research. Actually in a few cases it was a learning experience and it quickly opened my eyes to help spot the rascals better - lol
I believe if we plan to be 'home business owners' we need to start thinking like business people think and not throw a tantrum when things don't go as we think and blame everyone else for our mistakes!
Online business is no different than offline in the fact that it takes work, effort and usually money. We have been trained by our society to think as consumers with the mindset of 'How much is this gonna cost me?" - and we need to put our 'business mindcaps' on to realize that what we need to look at is "What is my ROI - return on investment?"
I honestly believe that if folks would put as much effort into building their business as they do in venting their frustrations, they would be successful like everyone else!
So anyways - that's my two cents worth about rip-off report - lol! I will get off my soap box and back to building my business.

I have done quite a number of searches on Ripoff report into some programs which I have seen on this forum, I must say that some of these reports are accurate such as the Ultimate Wealth Package & Instant Money Vault. These reports would be mixed for other home based businesses but it is a good source of information if you want too research a particular program.

Some "good" companies do end up on the ripoffreport, because people like to complain when they have a bad experience with a company. Having said that, I can almost guarantee that most of the rip off reports filed about work at home companies are totally accurate. While the ripoffreport is not "perfect", it is a great source of information if you are researching work at home opportunities.

They also sell a really good workbook for if you've been the victim of a ripoff. It gives you advice on how to handle it - specifically if you've been ripped off for a large sum of money.

Well, I agree that a lot of legitimate offers get put on rip-off reports but I also think that MOST offers in general that ask for an up front fee are rip offs. If anybody knows of a program that asks for an up front fee that is really a good program, (as long as you work it), I would like to hear about it. Hey, offline companies never ask for an upfront fee, if these online companies were legit they would take whatever fee out of your first paycheck!

Ever buy a hotdog stand or an espresso shack for free? No different online - some work at home offers are for business opportunities, others are not...

Originally the whole point of Rip-Off Report was to help consumers who were victimized by a local business. Example: they paid for a new exhaust system at Midas and two weeks later it fell off. Midas did a shoddy job but they won't make good on the deal. The "Rip-Off Report" Publication was to show you how to deal with a local business.
People wanted to know how to apply those principles with online businesses, and of course, the owner and writer of Rip-Off Report said, "oh yeah, it'll work for those too." But not so much really.
Rip-Off Report isn't really supposed to be used for exposing "scams" but more for consumers who have been treated unfairly in some sort of consumer transaction.

If you know what to look for on rip of report you can definitely learn from it. I'll give you a good example and a bad example of what you want to be looking for.
Good Example:
I've been working with company x for 6 months and have yet to receive a payment on any of my sales. I cannot get ahold of their help desk and none of my calls are being returned. I've tried to mail them and mail comes back undeliverable. I've check their website and cannot find any further information about them to contact them. When I signed up they ask for X amount upfront to be sent via cash.
Bad example.
I signed up with company Y and I'm not a millionaire yet. I've tried to contact support but they are not helpful at all. I don't get what I'm doing and I want a refund of all my money. This company has only been around for 8 years. My sponsor has not been very helpful and all the promises of making it big are not coming true. This DOES NOT WORK. STAY AWAY.
The good example shows that the company is probably a scam group and will be gone soon.
The bad example is just someone who didin't make it. Regardless of all the guarantees out there, there is nothing that is for sure in marketing online.
In everything I sign up for I check multiple sources...ripoff report being one of them. I've learned a lot about what to expect when signing up for something based on other people's experiences. I use ripoff report as a tool to help me weigh out my risk and decide if this "opportunity" is something I'd like to gamble on.
I think anyone who's been online long enough can tell you working online can be a gamble until you know what you're doing.
Also it helps if you have the right help.
When I first started with GDI my upline sucked. Still does IMHO, BUT because of my experience I try not to be the same crappy upline I had.
