My wife is in Melaluca (I am by association) and their products are great. And, the company is not really similar to Amway - there are a lot of differences, at least from what I've seen being around it for a few years. As far as this company not being MLM - I don't quite buy it - I think they're trying to argue semantics, but I do admit the focus is different than many MLM companies that I've been introduced to.
We don't try to make money with the business, though - we make enough to cover our products & that's it. However, my brother & sister in law are in the business and they're way up there making over six figures a year... though my sister in law toiled for years (maybe 4) to get them to this level.
All things considered - if I were to want to get involved with a MLM opportunity - Melaluca would be it. The pay system isn't as "strong" as other opportunities - but the company's been around for many years with a showing of continual growth rather than sudden, explosive growth.

I never personally had experience with Mel...but I know several friends who have, and they all had less than pleasurable experiences as well.

Some make it, some don't. There are alot of different reasons why. Main thing is to have a good supportive team and a duplicatable system for generating leads as well as ongoing training on what to say and do.

Hello Ebookrus,
It's too bad you did not join Melaleuca with a Canadian team... where your "handicap" could have been a great asset. You could market to french canadians (choose Canadian leads) and direct them to online presentations in french.
English or french, I must admit though that calling leads can be really difficult. I certainly did not enjoy it and even though I used scripts, I found that I never knew when someone would actually show up for a presentation!
Just a thought, maybe you can start a blog marketing various opportunites to people in a similar language situation. You may have found a great niche!

TJam, Did you actually DO Melaleuca to get all this experience or are you stereotyping the company? To all: Go to a book store and and find a copy of Barrons Book of Finance and Investment and look up the definition of Pyramid. There will be 3 definitions and two of them explain the legal pyramid structures. The ILLEGAL pyramid is a PONZI SCHEME, which Amway, Primerica, and Melaleuca are not.
This stuff requires work and a lot of people start these things, fail and blame the company. The finger always points away from ourselves. Why do people expect to pick up a basketball and expect to immediately be Michael Jordan?
Think it through. Forget MLM and think about life. Did you ever see 2 winos having a spirited conversation with each other? They spend their time talking about everything that happened to them, rather than what they did or didn't do. They spend a good deal of time consoling themselves over that and giving each other advice, but figure it out...2 failures are giving each other advice. Take it to the next level-The average person hangs out with people just like they are and do the same thing the bums do and wonder why they never get ahead.

I did Melaleuca. The products are environmental friendly. You have to be a very outgoing/assertive person to do a good job here. I'm not! There is a sign up fee, which I believe is around $30. They sometimes have promotional prices. At the beginner level, you have to maintain a 35 pt. purchase; roughly $50 per month. As you accumulate customers, who will have to purchase the same amount each month, you will receive a residual from their purchases. If they decide to participate on the sales level, you will receive a residual from their customers. It's a good company and as you move up, there are great benefits. I hope this helps.
